These tools, such as NeuralWare's Predict, Braincel, and Evolver use the Excel environment as an attempt to isolate the user from most of the complexities of data preparation and modeling. The strategy is a good one, for it takes advantage of the large installed base and the graphical capabilities of Excel. However, in choosing such a strategy they also limit themselves to the number of rows and cells Excel can import.
