Introduction

From the net: BISS (Basic Interoperable Scrambling System) is a new 
standard for a simple scrambling system to be used in DSNG, Satellite 
Contribution and Primary Distribution applications. Using the DVB-CSA 
(Common Scrambling Algorithm), BISS is a milestone in scrambling 
standards that was agreed upon in January 2000 by a group of professional 
codec vendors and the European Broadcasting Union. The system will enable 
operators to transmit and receive scrambled signals to and from 
different encoders and IRDs. BISS requires no expensive and complicated 
CA system as a password is directly entered into the encoder and the IRD.

To make it simple, BISS uses a fixed Session Word (SW, 12 digit hex)
and DVB-CSA for scrabling. The SW is used to derive a Control Word
(CW 64 bit) for DVB-CSA. Programs like ProgDVB and MultiDec
have DVB-CSA builtin. Others use a CSA or SoftCSA plugin DLL.  

The current BISS plugin simply offers a user interface to input
and manage the session word for different channels. The session
words are stored in a file BISS.ini. When the user switches a channel,
if the channel name matches an entry in BISS.ini, the session word
is converted into a control word and is sent to the host program.
The user can also enter the session word in a dialog box and save
it in BISS.ini, or delete entries in BISS.ini.
