Getting started -

A.) Quiz
  - The system provides you two type of quizzes viz. Demo and Main. The description
  about them is as follows:

Go to the "Quiz" menu and press "Demo" for a demo of how the quiz works. It
will pop up a window asking you to specify the topic and the time you want for
each question. Select the topic you want to take the quiz ; here you can also
select the topic as "ALL" in which case you will get questions from all the
topics. After selecting the topic set the time you want for each question, e.g.
30 seconds or 60 seconds or anything that you want. Please notice that by default
the time will be set which we recommend but you are allowed to alter it as per
your requirement. Now press "Start" and it's ready!!

Once you complete the quiz it will show you the report. To see the explanation
for a question just double-click on that question in the report. Once you get
familiar with the interface, go for the main version of the quiz. To do so press
"Main" from the "Quiz" menu. Now follow the same procedure as above to take
  the quiz.

Note: Studies have shown that these kind of time bound quizzes tend
to sharpen the brain and memory so as to work faster and better. The best time
to take these quizzes is during your revision, in last few days before the exam.

B.) Mock Tests -
The system provides you five types of tests viz. Tutorial test, Diagnostic test,
Practice test, Customized test and the Final test. All the five tests are described
  as follows: -

Tutorial test - This test is provided
such that you can familiarize yourself with the system. This test contains
10 questions that have nothing to do with Java. If you are new to this system,
we recommend that you take this test before taking any other test. When you
take any other type of test, the system asks you if you want to take the Tutorial
test. Click on "Yes" to take the Tutorial test. You can then either complete
the Tutorial test or skip it.

Diagnostic test (1 Test) - It is to
find out where you stand regarding your preparation for SCJP1.4 exam. It is
recommended to start your preparation with this test. It will help you know
your strengths and weaknesses. Knowing this you can plan your preparation
ensuring efficient and effective use of your time and efforts.

Practice test (8 Tests) - A Practice
test is a predefined test based on the latest pattern of SCJP1.4. There are
    8 tests of this type.

Customized test - The other type
is the Customized test. You can customize a Practice test according to your
requirements. To do so choose the Customize option from the menu. It will
pop up a form in which there will be list of all the topics. All you need
to do is, type the number of questions you want of a particular topic in front
of that particular topic. Further there are three levels of toughness defined
in the system viz. beginner, intermediate and expert. When you type in number
of questions of a particular topic you also have the option to choose how
many of those you want to be beginner level, intermediate level and expert
level separately. The default time for any test is 120 minutes but you can
set the time (in a customized test) according to your requirements.

Final test (1 Test) - The final test
is meant to be taken in the last i.e. just before you take the actual SCJP1.4
exam. It contains fresh questions i.e. any question in this test is not repeated
from any of the previous papers irrespective of whether the tests taken were
Standard tests or Customized tests. This is to give a final estimation of
    your position.

In other words, there are 610 questions in the system in the form of 10
predefined tests (1 Diagnostic test, 8 Practice tests and 1 Final test).
When you use the customize option for a Practice test, the system picks
questions from this very lot in a random fashion. Hence if you have used
the customize option, then after that it is possible that while taking a
test you find that some particular question is being repeated. But don't
worry much about it because the system makes sure that this repetition of
questions is spread evenly over all the tests reducing its effect. But the
final test is special in a sense that you won't find any question being
repeated no matter which way you have used the system before taking the
      Final test.

To start a test go to Test menu and choose new. It will give you four options
viz. Diagnostic test, Practice test, Customize and Final test. Choose any one
of them as per your requirement. Once you have chosen the test you want to take,
it will then ask you if you want to take the Tutorial test such that you can
familiarize yourself with the system. If you say "Yes" it takes you
to the Tutorial test where you can either complete the Tutorial test or skip
it. Once you are through with the Tutorial test either by completing it, skipping
it or saying "NO" at the first place itself, it asks you if you want
to start the test you chose. If you click on "Yes" it takes you to that test
but if you click on "No", it brings you back to the main screen. Also you will
find a button "Instructions" on the dialog box asking for you to start
the test. Pressing this button will pop up instructions for the test.

Reset - You can reset the current test
or the whole package (all tests). What is meant by resetting a test is that
the system will mark all the questions as unused and will also remove the test
from the report generation system such that this test will not be included in
the overall report and you can take this test again afresh. Resetting the whole
package means that the system will remove all the results of tests taken till
then and will mark all the questions (all 610!) as unused. This option is provided
such that the system can be used a fresh without conflicting with its previous
use or results of the previous user.

Report - You can generate a report for every test. The
current test report gives you a complete analysis of the test. E.g. which
questions you attempted, and which ones you didn't, which ones are right
and which ones are wrong etc. It also tells you your topic wise score. You can go to any question from the report by double clicking on that
question in the report. It will pop up a screen showing the question, correct
choice(s), your choice(s) and explanation of the choices. The correct choice(s)
will be highlighted whereas the choice(s) marked by you will be selected.
Please note here that when you generate report for the current test, the
test stops before generating the report. Once you have generated report
for the test you can't edit any of your choice(s) for any question of that
test. It's exactly similar to submitting the test for evaluation. After
seeing report for the current test, you have the option to save that test
or not. If you save that test, it will go to the overall report and the
system will give you a fresh test next time otherwise it will repeat the
same test.

The overall report gives you the complete analysis of your performance
on the basis of the tests saved till the time you asked for the overall
report. You can go to the report of any particular test by double clicking
on that test in the overall report.

Instructions - Whenever you start
any particular test, the system asks you if you want to go through the instructions.
We recommend that you go through these instructions at least once. These are
same for every test, so you need not go through them every time you take a test.
The instructions are as follows: -

1. The test contains 61 questions in total and you have 2 hours (120 minutes)
  for a test.

2. You need to score at least 52% (at least 32 correct answers) to pass the
  examination.

3. There are three types of questions in the test viz.
a) Multiple Choice
b) Fill in the blanks
c) True/False

4. Most of the questions are multiple choice type. Of these, some questions
have a single correct answer while others have more than one correct answer.
In multiple choice questions that require you to pick more than one answer,
the system will display how many options to choose, and the options will
be presented as checkboxes, whereas in questions that require you to pick
only one answer, the possible answers will be presented with radio buttons
that effectively prevent you from selecting more than one answer.

5. For fill in the blank type of questions you will be required to type
in an exact word/expression in the space provided.

6. For True/False type questions you are required to choose either of
the choices.

7. All questions carry equal marks

8. There is no negative marking. So try to answer each and every question
even if you don't have any idea about the answer!

9. At any point of time you can review your work. There is a 'Review'
button on the Screen, Clicking it will show you all the questions that
are in the test you are taking at that point of time. Double clicking any
question will take you to that question. Please note here that the test
is not over when you ask for review. In other words reviewing is a part
of taking the test, therefore, the clock keeps ticking while you are reviewing
your work.

10. You can mark a question and while reviewing you will be shown a
list of questions and in front of every question it will indicate whether
it is marked or not, attempted or not, which topic is it from, what is
the type of question.

11. At any point of time during the test you can go back to any question
and edit your choice(s). To edit your choice(s) for a particular question,
simply go to that question, either by double clicking on that question
from the review screen or by back/next button. Once you have reached to
that question press "Clear" to clear your previous choice(s). Now you can
mark your choice(s) again.

12. In case you have any problem viewing a question or an explanation,
you can have a bigger view of any question or explanation by clicking
on the "Exhibit" button below that question or explanation in the interface.
