[\fIHDF5FILE\fR]....SH DESCRIPTION.PP." Add any additional description herempb-data is a utility to perform additional processing andtransformations of HDF5 files output by MPB, the MIT Photonic-Bandsprogram. In particular, it is designed to make the output moreamenable to visualization by reformatting it into a rectangular grid, extending it to multiple periods, and rescaling the data..PPMIT Photonic Bands (MPB) is a free program to compute the bandstructures (dispersion relations) and electromagnetic modes ofperiodic dielectric structures..PPHDF5 is a free, portable binary format and supporting library developedby the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the Universityof Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. A single.I h5file can contain multiple data sets; by default,.I mpb-dataoperates on all of the MPB-produced datasets in the file, but this canbe changed via the.B -doption, or by using the syntax \fIHDF5FILE:DATASET\fR..PP.I mpb-datawrites its output datasets as additional datasets in the input file(s), with "-new" appended to the dataset names. Alternatively, it can write its output to a separate file, specified by the.B -ooption..PPNote also that, by default, the output datasets are identical to theinput datasets; you must use one or more of the options below tospecify a transformation (e.g. the \fB\-r\fR/\fB\-e\fR and.B -noptions are very useful)..SH OPTIONS.TP.B -hDisplay help on the command-line options and usage..TP.B -VPrint the version number and copyright info for mpb-data..TP.B -vVerbose output..TP\fB\-o\fR \fIfile\fRWrite output datasets to.I file(for the first input file only) rather than as additional datasets inthe input file(s) (the default)..TP.B -rOutput a rectangular cell with the same volume as the cell of theinput data. This option is particularly useful for visualizing datafrom non-orthogonal unit cells (e.g. a triangular lattice), asotherwise the data will appear skewed or warped in most graphicsprograms. This option should almost always be accompanied by the\fB\-n\fR option to ensure a uniform resolution..TP\fB\-e\fR \fIx,y,z\fRAs the \fB\-r\fR option, but also make the first axis of the output alongthe \fIx,y,z\fR direction (in Cartesian coordinates) instead of alongthe first lattice vector as for \fB\-r\fR..TP\fB\-n\fR \fIn\fROutput.I ngrid points per lattice unit ("a"). This is useful not only for interpolatingto finer (or coarser) resolutions, but also to ensure that the resolutionis uniform in each direction (to prevent the data from looking distortedwhen you visualize it)..TP\fB\-x\fR \fImx\fR, \fB\-y\fR \fImy\fR, \fB\-z\fR \fImz\fRThis tells.I mpb-datato output multiple periods in the corresponding lattice directions.to use a particular slice of a two- or three-dimensional dataset. e.g..B -x 3.2causes the output of 3.2 periods in the first lattice direction. Thedefault is to output only a single period..TP\fB\-m\fR \fIs\fROutput.I speriods in each lattice direction; equivalent to:\fB\-x\fR \fIs\fR \fB\-y\fR \fIs\fR \fB\-z\fR \fIs\fR..TP.B -TThe output has the first two dimensions (x and y) transposed. Thisis useful in conjunction with the parallel (MPI) version of MPB,which for performance reasons outputs all arrays with the first twodimensions transposed..B -Tcan undo this transposition..TP.B -pPixellized output. Normally, the input data is linearly interpolated tothe output grid, but the.B -poption causes it to instead use the nearest grid point in the input data. This is useful, for example, if you want to study the discretization of thedielectric-function representation..TP\fB\-d\fR \fIname\fRUse dataset.I namefrom the input files; otherwise, the first dataset from each file is used.Alternatively, use the syntax \fIHDF5FILE:DATASET\fR, which allows youto specify a different dataset for each file. You can use the.I h5lscommand (included with hdf5) to find the names of datasets within a file..SH BUGSSend bug reports to S.
