It does this by encrypting your mail sothat nobody but the intended person can read it. When encrypted, themessage looks like a meaningless jumble of random characters. PGP hasproven itself quite capable of resisting even the most sophisticatedforms of analysis aimed at reading the encrypted text. PGP can also be used to apply a digital signature to a message withoutencrypting it. This is normally used in public postings where you don'twant to hide what you are saying, but rather want to allow others toconfirm that the message actually came from you. Once a digital signatureis created, it is impossible for anyone to modify either the message orthe signature without the modification being detected by PGP.

Where to find more information

<!WA5><!WA5><!WA5>PGP Home Page

The <!WA6><!WA6><!WA6>PGP FAQ explains what PGP is and how to find it.

The <!WA7><!WA7><!WA7>North America PGP Archive has versions of PGP that run on almost any computer.

<!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9>

<!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11>

<!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><IMG BORDER=0 ALIGN=middle HSPACE=5 ALT="This page is optimized for Lynx!"
