It ranks among top electrical and computerengineering departments in national surveys, consistently producingtalented graduates whose skills are respected throughout the nationand the world. Its distinguished faculty of 55 members leads excitingresearch efforts that span both traditional and emerging areas inelectrical and computer engineering. Many have been recognized fortheir research contributions with awards from national andinternational organizations; among the faculty are nine IEEE Fellowsand eight NSF Presidential Young Investigator award recipients.
Research in the department encompasses virtually every specialtywithin electrical and computer engineering. Our department is notedfor its "hands-on" approach to graduate education, complemented with astrong theoretical program. This blend offers students a tremendousrange of research and educational opportunities exploiting bothtechnological and conceptual innovations in electrical and computerengineering. Interdisciplinary research and educational programs area major component of the activities at UW-Madison. Many electricaland computer engineering faculty and graduate students conductinterdisciplinary research in such diverse fields as materialsscience, dynamical systems, space science, manufacturing systems, fusion, and applied probability. These efforts typically involvecross departmental collaboration with faculty in other branches ofengineering and such areas as medicine, computer science, physics andmathematics.
The campus boasts a large number of interdisciplinary centers andindustrial consortia to coordinate and enhance such efforts. Thesecenters provide access to state of the art technology for a "criticalmass" of talented students, faculty, and professional research staff, and focus on innovations destined to enhance the competitive positionof U.S. engineering and technology. Many of these centers andconsortia operate with direct industry participation. This permitsstudents to obtain first hand knowledge of modern industrial researchneeds and to establish important links between the industrialparticipants and the department. Our faculty feel a strong sense of responsibility toprovide the finest possible education for both graduate andundergraduate students. This commitment is evidenced in our faculty'smany textbooks that have been adopted by universities in the U.S. andabroad. The members of this department have always sought to maintaina symbiosis between research and teaching, with research contributionsyielding improvements in curriculum, and fundamental insights from theclassroom providing a foundation for innovative research. Some of therecent research contributions of our faculty are listed in anenclosure at the back of this brochure.
Approximately three hundred students are currently enrolled in our graduate program, with roughly 40 percent being doctoral candidates. The department awards an average of 70 master's degrees and 15 doctoral degrees each year. Demand for our graduates among industrial, government and academic employers is consistently high. Our alumni have been active contributors to the advancement of electrical and computer engineering throughout the department's more than hundred year history, and they remain leaders in industry and academia today.

[ <!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6>UW | <!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7>COE | <!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8>Depts | <!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9>Centers | <!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10>Consortia | <!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11>Services | <!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12>Fountain ]
[ <!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13>Index | <!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14>Search | <!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15>Mail | <!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16>What's New | <!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17>Credits | <!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18>Help ]

<!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20>

Last Modified: Wednesday, 17-Jul-96 11:25:50 CDT
This page is best viewed by browsers that support TABLES.
All photographs ©
