My wife, Charmaine, isfrom <!WA4><!WA4><!WA4><!WA4><!WA4><!WA4><!WA4><!WA4><a href="http://www.sg">Singapore</a>, <!WA5><!WA5><!WA5><!WA5><!WA5><!WA5><!WA5><!WA5><ahref="http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/grant/singapore95.html">whichwe visited last fall</a>.  We live in <!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><!WA6><ahref="http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/City_of_Edmonds_WA/">Edmonds</a>,just north of <!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><!WA7><A HREF="http://www.pan.ci.seattle.wa.us/">Seattle</a>,<!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><a href="http://www.wa.gov/">Washington</a>.<p>Our first child, <!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><a href="http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/grant/isis/">Isis Mei Grant</a>, was born April9, 1996.  She was 8 pounds, 5 ounces and 20 inches long.  She was lastmeasured on 10/9/96.  Isis was 27.5" long and 17 lbs. 4 oz.<h3>Seattle</h3><p>There are lots of great things to do around Seattle (see <!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><!WA10><AHREF="http://www.cyberspace.com/bobk/home.html">The Emerald Web</A> or<!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><!WA11><A HREF="http://useattle.uspan.com/">U/Seattle</A>, or <!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><!WA12><AHREF="http://family.starwave.com/local/calendars/Seattle/index.html">Seattle'sChild On-line</A> for <!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><!WA13><a href="http://www.familyweb.com/faqs/">kid</a>stuff) and great <!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><!WA14><a href="http://www.parks.wa.gov/">parks</a> to visitwhen it isn't <!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><!WA15><ahref="http://www.intellicast.com/weather/sea/#fourday">raining</a>.Seattle has great resources on the web for checking <!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><!WA16><AHREF="http://transit.metrokc.gov>bus routes</a> <AHREF="http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/regions/northwest/NWFLOW/">traffic</A>,and <!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><!WA17><A HREF="http://www.atmos.washington.edu/">weather</A>.  There iseven a <!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><!WA18><AHREF="http://transit.metrokc.gov/bus/area_maps/seattle_cbd.html">mapof downtown Seattle</A> that I always check before heading downtown.<h3>Interests</h3><p> <!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><!WA19><a href="http://hav.com/bonsai/"><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><!WA20><img border=0 align=leftsrc="http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/grant/juniper.gif"></a> My main extracurricular activity is now playingwith and caring for my daughter, <!WA21><!WA21><!WA21><!WA21><!WA21><!WA21><!WA21><!WA21><a href="http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/grant/isis/">Isis</a>.  I thoughtit might be a neat idea to start a <!WA22><!WA22><!WA22><!WA22><!WA22><!WA22><!WA22><!WA22><AHREF="http://www.pass.wayne.edu/~dan/bonsai.html">bonsai tree</A> thatwould then be as old as she was, so I've planted a seed of a neatlittle tree with tiny oranges.  So that I can get good pictures of mydaugther, I've taken an interest in <!WA23><!WA23><!WA23><!WA23><!WA23><!WA23><!WA23><!WA23><ahref="http://photo.net/photo">photography</a> and bought <!WA24><!WA24><!WA24><!WA24><!WA24><!WA24><!WA24><!WA24><ahref="http://www.usa.canon.com/cameras/eosrebel.html">a newcamera</a>.  <!WA25><!WA25><!WA25><!WA25><!WA25><!WA25><!WA25><!WA25><ahref="http://www.usa.canon.com/cameras/eosrebel.html"><!WA26><!WA26><!WA26><!WA26><!WA26><!WA26><!WA26><!WA26><img align=rightborder=0 src="http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/grant/rebelxs.gif"></a><p>Since the birth of my daughter, I've also become much moreinterested in <!WA27><!WA27><!WA27><!WA27><!WA27><!WA27><!WA27><!WA27><a href="http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/grant/politics.html">politics</a> and <!WA28><!WA28><!WA28><!WA28><!WA28><!WA28><!WA28><!WA28><ahref="http://www.classicaliscool.com/">classical music</a><small>(hmm...)</small>.  While in the car, I listen to <!WA29><!WA29><!WA29><!WA29><!WA29><!WA29><!WA29><!WA29><AHREF="http://www.kuow.washington.edu/">KUOW FM</A>, the local <!WA30><!WA30><!WA30><!WA30><!WA30><!WA30><!WA30><!WA30><ahref="http://www.npr.org">NPR</a> radio station.  At home or in theoffice (over the web!), I listen to the local classical station, <!WA31><!WA31><!WA31><!WA31><!WA31><!WA31><!WA31><!WA31><ahref="http://www.king.org/">KING FM</a>.  I hope to go to the <!WA32><!WA32><!WA32><!WA32><!WA32><!WA32><!WA32><!WA32><ahref="http://www.speakeasy.org/seattlesymphony/maintable.html">SeattleSymphony</a> sometime.<p> I like to <!WA33><!WA33><!WA33><!WA33><!WA33><!WA33><!WA33><!WA33><a href="http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~mjw/recipes/">cook</a>and to <!WA34><!WA34><!WA34><!WA34><!WA34><!WA34><!WA34><!WA34><a href="http://www.cs.washington.edu/area/eating">eat</a>(especially <!WA35><!WA35><!WA35><!WA35><!WA35><!WA35><!WA35><!WA35><ahref="http://www.usa.net/~dahasher/Bread_Machine.html">bread</a>),both of which I'm glad I have to do.  I like to <!WA36><!WA36><!WA36><!WA36><!WA36><!WA36><!WA36><!WA36><ahref="http://www.amazon.com">read</a> about <!WA37><!WA37><!WA37><!WA37><!WA37><!WA37><!WA37><!WA37><ahref="http://smash.cs.com/">science fiction</a>, <!WA38><!WA38><!WA38><!WA38><!WA38><!WA38><!WA38><!WA38><ahref="http://pupgg.princeton.edu/">physics</a>, <!WA39><!WA39><!WA39><!WA39><!WA39><!WA39><!WA39><!WA39><ahref="http://www.kalmbach.com/astro/astronomy.html">astronomy</a>, <!WA40><!WA40><!WA40><!WA40><!WA40><!WA40><!WA40><!WA40><ahref="http://www.tiac.net/users/frj/">fantasy</a>, <!WA41><!WA41><!WA41><!WA41><!WA41><!WA41><!WA41><!WA41><AHREF="http://neal.ctstateu.edu/history/world_history/world_history.html">ancientand medieval history</a>, and <!WA42><!WA42><!WA42><!WA42><!WA42><!WA42><!WA42><!WA42><AHREF="http://orion.it.luc.edu/~sgerlac/links.html">archaeology</a>,but I barely have time even to read my favorite comic strip, <!WA43><!WA43><!WA43><!WA43><!WA43><!WA43><!WA43><!WA43><aHREF="http://www.unitedmedia.com/comics/dilbert/">Dilbert</A>.  I alsotake time to watch my favorite TV show, <!WA44><!WA44><!WA44><!WA44><!WA44><!WA44><!WA44><!WA44><AHREF="http://www.hyperion.com/lurk/lurker.html">Babylon 5</A>, buthave little time for my other interests.<p><!WA45><!WA45><!WA45><!WA45><!WA45><!WA45><!WA45><!WA45><a href="http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/grant/singapore95.html">When I was in Singapore</a>,I learned how to play <!WA46><!WA46><!WA46><!WA46><!WA46><!WA46><!WA46><!WA46><a href="http://www.io.org/~sung/xq/xq.html">xiang qi(Chinese chess)</a> and liked it quite a bit, but I haven't played it muchsince I got back to the US.
