At the University ofWashington I am part of a group working in the area. I am interestedin the systems aspects of mobile computing and hope to stumble overacademic research in this area by immersing myself into a mobileenvironment.
For our research we initially worked with the hardware and softwareinfrastructure built around the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center's(PARC) ``Ubiquitous Computing Project.'' The hardware includeslow-power, <!WA0>infrared transceivers and <!WA1><ahref=http://www.cs.washington.edu/research/mobicomp/mef/mobile/apr30_12.gif>handheld pen-based tablets. The softwareincludes an application suite and service <!WA2><ahref=http://www.cs.washington.edu/research/mobicomp/mef/mobile/system.ps>infrastructure that allows the handheld devices tooperate with stationary applications.
Our current research is described in the <!WA3><ahref="http://www.cs.washington.edu/research/mobicomp/mobile.html">UWMobile Computing home page. This fall <!WA4><ahref="http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/elf">Terri Watson will bejoining our research group, who has been working on <!WA5><ahref="http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/elf/wit/wit.html">WIT.
Marc's immediate project is to write a device driver for the PROXIMrangelan2 wireless ethernet card. This work is part of his <!WA6><ahref="http://www.cs.washington.edu/research/mobicomp/mef/mobile/proposal.html">MobileComputing Independent Project.
Marc is also interested in PCMCIA devices and how they tie into mobilecomputing:

<!WA7>Flash memory devices.
Smart Cards of the future.

Below is a list of mobile computing projects/papers/information foundon the web.

<!WA8>The Walkstation II Project
<!WA9>CITI
<!WA10>Mobile IP
<!WA11>Mobile Computing Bibliography
<!WA12>Rutgers Mobile Computing

<!WA13> Marc E.
