Using asimple communication cost model, we categorize each optimization interms of how it improves performance.  We use this model to gauge theeffectiveness of optimizations on particular parallel computers.  Wethen empirically evaluate the optimizations and compare theirperformance to that of communication optimized using only <em>messagevectorization</em> for a set of benchmark programs.
