Gifford</b>,<br>Professor <br>Electrical Engineering,<br> and Computer Science</address></td></tr></table></center><p><BODY><p>The Programming Systems Research Group is exploringmethodologies to facilitate the discovery and use ofinformation. Our current projects include an intelligentquery access system that implements resource discovery onthe Internet (NII); digital video storage, composition, andpresentation; mobile access to Internet resources; cachingarchitectures for information; and personal informationdiscovery agents. These projects are presently based onextensions to Semantic File Systems, Mosaic/WWW servers,WAIS servers, and object repositories.<p>Each of our projects is designed to test a new concept.Examples of concepts we are currently examining include <!WA3><AHREF="http://www.psrg.lcs.mit.edu/Projects/CRS/intro.html">contentrouting</a>, <!WA4><AHREF="http://www.psrg.lcs.mit.edu/Projects/AVS/intro.html">algebraicvideo</a>, and the creative use highly asymmetic bandwidth. <p>Our approach to research is to use formal tools,implementation, and experimentation to help us understandthe strenghts and limitations of a given system.
