The MITTransit Project aims to design, build, program, and utilize novelmassively parallel MIMD computer architectures. We utilize cuttingedge technology to achieve practical systems with a high degree ofboth scalar and parallel performance. To make very large computersystems practical, we are concerned with fault-tolerance andscalability.
The MIT Transit project ran from roughly 1987 to 1994. This document serves as a central location for information produced by andrelated to the Transit Project. This information currently includesconference papers, group working notes and an ftp site.
For historical reasons, the name Transit is often applied to the set ofpeople who made up the project. Several people involved with the originalTransit project now work on <!WA1><ahref="http://www.ai.mit.edu/projects/abacus/home_page.html">Abacus, aSIMD architecture focussed on low-level computer vision applications. The remaining Transit project members evolved into the <!WA2><AHREF="http://www.ai.mit.edu/projects/transit/rc_home_page.html">reinventing computing group.
n.b. for work on adaptable and reconfigurable computingincluding specialization theory, quasistatic computing, global cooperative computing, feedback directed specialization, and DPGAs, see the <!WA3><AHREF="http://www.ai.mit.edu/projects/transit/rc_home_page.html">reinventing computing home page.
For more information contact andre@ai.mit.edu.

Project Information

<!WA4>Project Motivation and Directions
<!WA5>Conference Papers and Thesis
<!WA6>Transit Notes by Subject Series oftechnical reports documenting projects, ideas, software, and hardwaredeveloped by the MIT Transit Project.
<!WA7>Transit Notes by Number
<!WA8>Project Member's Home Pages
<!WA9>Ftp: Transit Notes(compressed PostScript)
<!WA10>Ftp: Papers (compressed PostScript)
<!WA11>Ftp: Slides (compressed PostScript)
<!WA12>Ftp Site (transit.ai.mit.edu)

The documents contained in these directories are included by the contributing authors as a means to ensure timely dissemination of scholarly and technical work on a non-commercial basis.
