Unfortunately, given the quickproduction time frames faced by most developers, tool construction isoften postponed until after many architectural features have beenfrozen. To satisfy the need for fast tool prototyping, we havedesigned Emerald, a powerful architecture-driven system for quickdevelopment of FPGA tools. At its heart Emerald provides the basicfeatures needed in all FPGA systems -- logic block analysis, synthesisand technology mapping, global placement and partitioning, anddetailed placement and routing. Its CAD environment provides anefficient way to thoroughly specify an FPGA's routing and logic blockarchitectures, as well as architecture-specific metrics to tailorplacement and routing. Moreover, Emerald's parameterized schematicspecifications allow architectural variations to be quickly capturedand evaluated.

Emerald Publications
Any documents contained in this page are included bythe contributing authors as a means to ensure timely dissemination ofscholarly and technical work on a non-commercial basis.
