Flaviu Cristian is Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at
the University of California, San Diego. He received his PhD from the
University of Grenoble, France, in 1979.  After carrying out research
in operating systems and programming methodology in France and working
on the specification, design, and verification of fault-tolerant
software in England, he joined IBM Research in 1982.  While at IBM,
he worked in the area of fault-tolerant distributed systems and 
protocols.  After joining UCSD in 1991, he founded the Dependable
Systems
Laboratory where he and his collaborators design and build support 
services for providing high availability in distributed systems.
Dr.Cristian has published over 80 papers in the field of dependable
systems and is a frequent keynote and invited speaker at international
conferences and workshops.
