He has interests in computer architecture and VLSI systems ingeneral, and self-timed and asynchronous systems in particular.  Oneaspect of his research involves compiling concurrent communicatingprograms into asynchronous VLSI circuits. The current system allowsprograms written in a subset of occam, a concurrent message-passingprogramming language based on CSP, to be automatically compiled into aset of self-timed circuit modules suitable for manufacture as anintegrated circuit. He is also interested in investigating the effectsof asynchrony on computer systems architecture at a higher level. Toexplore these ideas he is building a series of prototype asynchronouscomputer systems out of FPGA and custom VLSI chips.<p><hr><h1> Asynchronous Circuits Symposia</h1>I was recently involved (as co-general-chair) in organizing the firstInternational Symposium on Advanced Research in Asynchronous Circuitsand Systems (Async94) which was held at the University Park Hotelin Salt Lake City from November 3-5 1994.
