(Steve) Schach </H1> <H3>Associate Professor of Computer Science and Computer Engineering </H3> <HR>Steve Schach obtained the M.S. degree in Physics at the<!WA1><A HREF = "http://wissgi.weizmann.ac.il"> Weizmann Institute of Science</A>in 1972, and the Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at the<!WA2><A HREF ="http://www.uct.ac.za"> University of Cape Town</A>in 1973. <P>Between 1972 and 1983, Professor Schach held faculty positionsin the Departments of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Cape Town.In 1978/9 he spent a sabbatical year at the Weizmann Institute ofScience.In 1983 he joined the <!WA3><A HREF="http://cswww.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/">Department of Computer Science</A> at Vanderbilt University.<P>Professor Schach's <!WA4><A HREF = "http://cswww.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/~srs/soft-eng.html"> research interests</A> are in the field of softwareengineering, and particularly in object-oriented softwareengineering. He and his<!WA5><A HREF = "http://cswww.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/~srs/soft-eng.html#gradstuds"> research students</A> are investigating issues relating the object-oriented paradigm.He also leads <!WA6><A HREF="http://cswww.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/~jgray/sdg.html">SDG++</A>, the software engineering discussion group.<P>Dr. Schach has written a number of <!WA7><A HREF = "http://cswww.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/~srs/books.html"> textbooks</A> on software engineering andobject-oriented software engineering. He has over 80 <!WA8><A HREF = "http://cswww.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/~srs/references.html"> refereed publications</A> to his name,including<!WA9><A HREF = "http://cswww.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/~srs/references.html#videotapes"> refereed videotapes</A>.Dr. Schach <!WA10><A HREF = "http://cswww.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/~srs/consulting.html"> consults</A> and teaches shortcourses internationally onsoftware engineering topics, including reuse, CASE, and theobject-oriented paradigm.<P>He is married to Sharon M. Stein, M.D., Associate Professor of <!--A HREF = "http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/vumcdept/radio.html"-->Pediatric Radiology <!--/A--> at <!WA11><A HREF ="http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/main.html"> Vanderbilt University Medical Center</A>.
