Angel</H2><P><HR></P><P>Professor Edward S. Angel received a Ph.D. from the University ofSouthern California in 1968. He has held academic positions at theUniversity of California at Berkeley, the University of SouthernCalifornia, and the University of Rochester. Professor Angel came toUNM in 1978. He was Associate Chair of the Department of Electricaland Computer Engineering (1982-85) and Chair of the Computer ScienceDepartment (1985-88). He has held visiting positions at the LundInstitute of Technology (Sweden), the Indian Institute of ScienceBangalore India (Senior Fulbright Lecturer), University CollegeLondon and Imperial College (London). He has also held a variety ofjoint appointments ranging from Biomathemics (USC) to Obstetrics andGynecology (Rochester) to Electrical and Computer Engineering (UNM).</P><P>His present research interests include: image processing,computer graphics, and computer vision. He is supporting graduatestudents working in volume visualization, virtual reality, roboticsand masssively parallel computing. His main teaching interests havebeen in Computer Graphics. See<!WA1><A HREF="http://www.cs.unm.edu/~tmason/graphics.html"> recent studentprojects.</A> His students have been working with students ina number of other disciplines creating <!WA2><A HREF="http://www.unm.edu/~kholland/">animations </A> using the Wavefront/Alias software.Professor Angel was recently named the first UNMPresidential Teaching Fellow.</P><P>Professor Angel just returned from sabbatical. During the fall hetaught at the Universidad de los Andes in Merida, Venezuela and atthe Universidad Tecnologica Equinoccial in Quito, Ecuador. During thespring he visited National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan and theChinese University in Hong Kong.
