He joined the University of Washington in 1986, after aone-year Postdoc at the <!WA1><!WA1><!WA1><a href="http://www.msri.org"> Mathematical Science Research Institute </a> inBerkeley, CA. In 1987 he received an NSF Presidential YoungInvestigator award.
