My permanent position is at <!WA0><A HREF="http://www.sics.se/">SICS,</A> in <!WA1><A HREF="http://www.sunet.se:80/stockholm/">Stockholm</A>,<!WA2><A HREF="http://www.sunet.se/map/sweden.html">Sweden</A>, where I have my <!WA3><A HREF="http://www.sics.se/~jussi/">home page</A>.<hr>Currently involved in the <!WA4><A href="http://cs.nyu.edu/cs/projects/proteus/trec/">TREC</A> project at NYU.<hr><H2>Background and Reseach Goals</H2>I received my B A in Computational Linguistics and Mathematics in 1988, aLicentiate of Philosophy in Computer and Systems Sciences 1992, and havesince then been employed at SICS in the Language and Interaction group -the former Natural Language Processing group - which position I currentlyam on leave from to uphold a research assistant position at New YorkUniversity. I have previously worked at SISU, been a visiting student atColumbia University, and a programming assistant at Xerox PARC. My primaryinterests are dialogue and communication, taken broadly enough to includehuman computer dialogue design, information retrieval, and languagetypology - my research has focused on ensuring that multimodalhuman-computer dialogue provides enough cues for natural languageinteraction to be natural, transparent, and intuitive; and in investigatingsurface cues in texts to aid text categorization.
