He received aB.A. in Physics from <!WA9><a href=http://www.ripon.edu>Ripon College</a> in1984, and an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the <!WA10><ahref=http://www.virginia.edu>University of Virginia</a> in 1986 and1989, respectively.  His graduate research focused on using neuralnetworks and image processing techniques for motion detection and targettracking.  Currently he is involved in conducting research inmulti-dimensional signal processing, with an emphasis in datacompression and <!WA11><ahref=http://dragon.larc.nasa.gov/viplab/projects/retinex/retinex.html>image enhancement methods</a>.
