I'm working for <!WA1><ahref="http://www.cs.unm.edu/~ackley/">Dave Ackley as an R.A. I could tell you what Iwas working on, but then I would have to kill you. Haven't really hadtime to work on a homepage as much as I would have liked. You canhowever get my <!WA2>resume (CV). That interest takes a lot of different forms. I like HCI,new approaches to computation and techniques to describe them. I amalso interesting in using computer modelling as a tool to betterunderstand the natural world, especially if this understanding can inturn be leveraged to build better computer systems. In this vein Iworked at <!WA5>The Santa Fe Institutelast year where I worked on evolving Cellular Automata (you can lookat my <!WA6>homepage thereto see what I was up to.)
<!WA7>
Politics <!WA8><!WA9><!WA10><!WA11>
I am really quite concerned with the recent <!WA12><ahref="http://www.yahoo.com/Government/Politics/Censorship/Censorship_and_the_Net/">censorshipactivities, such as the Telecommunications Reform Bill, on the <!WA13><ahref="http://www.eff.org/pub/Alerts/index.html#exon">'net and <!WA14><ahref="http://bronze.ucs.indiana.edu/~quinnjf/censor.html">writlarge. In addition I believe that the Drug War and the <!WA18><ahref="gopher://gopher.well.sf.ca.us/00/Politics/piss.list">hiringpractices which accompany is a threat to civil rights.
I am a member of the <!WA19>Electronic FrontierFoundation and the <!WA20>American CivilLiberties Union as well as the <!WA21><ahref="http://www.acm.org/">Association for Computing Machinery. I have alwayslived quite near the wilderness and plan on moving back if this wholeglobal village, telecommuting thing comes true. Heck, these days eventhe <!WA30>American AlpineClub and the <!WA31>Access Fund are online. Ijust joined both this year.
I have a fondness for <!WA32><ahref="http://www.teleport.com/~dgs1300/brewpubs.html#OrBpubs">nicebeer. In particular I find Bridgeport Special (only availiable attheir brewpub that I know of) and Pintail ESB, Full Sail Pilsner,Widmer Hefeweizen and Sierra Nevada Porter to be very pleasing. WhileI think that their quality control has slipped in recent years I alsoenjoy an occasional Ruby from the McMenamins (I would recommend thesmaller places that still brew their own beer on site.); how I missthe Pacific Northwest. Fundamentaly I guess I am just another typicalWest-coast, high-quality-of-life, slacker.

Travel
I am planning to take a <!WA33>trip to<!WA34><ahref="http://sunsite.nus.sg/asiasvc.html" > South-East Asia, <!WA35><ahref="http://www.yahoo.com/Regional/Countries/New_Zealand/" >NewZealand, and <!WA36><ahref="http://www.yahoo.com/Regional/Countries/Australia/">Australia within the next year. I spent some of my formativeyears in New Zealand, so I am really looking forward to visting.
