Our current research involves:

Document Length Normalization in Information Retrieval
To fairly retrieve texts of varying sizes, document lengthnormalization is commonly used in term weighting. We show thateffective systems should retrieve documents of all sizes with chancessimilar to their likelihood of relevance. We propose pivoting,a new technique that can be used to modify existing normalizationfunctions to yield substantial improvements in retrievaleffectiveness. We also propose a new and effective normalizationtechnique.
<!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8><!WA8>Some papers ...

Our <!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9><!WA9>TRECParticipation
Text REtrieval Conference (TREC) is a NIST and ARPA co-sponsoredeffort to objectively evaluate various information retrievaltechniques on an independent testbed.
