Organized Session on Wavelet Applications and Smart Visualization is
planned in The 10th International Symposium on Flow
Visualization. This Symposium, which is co-sponsored by the
International Flow Visualization Society and the Visualization Society
of Japan, is the latest in the series of International Flow
Visualization Symposia, first held in Tokyo in 1977 and successively
in Bochum, Ann Arbor, Paris, Prague, Yokohama, Seattle, Sorrento and
Edinburgh.
This organized session is open to researchers in applied mathematics,
signal and image processing, computer vision, medical imaging,
physics, engineering, et al.. The purpose is to provide an opportunity
for introducing innovative approaches, exchanging information and
stimulating discussion on the potential of wavelet technology and
smart visualized information processing in all fields. Papers are
solicited on topics in the latest progress, new concepts and novel
applications.
Papers will be accepted on the basis of extended abstracts of no more
than 4 pages including figures and references. Please use the Template
that is available at the symposium web
site. (http://www.vsj.or.jp/isfv10/) Although the template is provided
by Word, please submit your abstract by PDF. They should include the
title, authors' names and affiliations, a concise statement of the
problem, method of approach, results, conclusions, and sample
figures. Please identify the corresponding author with an asterisk and
provide his/her complete address, telephone number, fax number and
e-mail address.
The abstract should be submitted to the symposium web site
(http://www.vsj.or.jp/isfv10/) by January 31, 2002. Please select

Scientific Programme:
This will be the fifth in a series of annual workshops centred around
the general themes of wavelets, quantization and differential
equations. The previous four meetings were all held in early May. It
was felt that moving the meeting to February would make it more
convenient to a larger number of interested researchers
internationally. The objective of these meetings is to facilitate
exchange of ideas between Cuban researchers and students with their
colleagues in other countires. Past meetings have always generated a
cordial and relaxed atmosphere for work and recreation (Cuba is
renowned for its touristic opportunities, its colourful cultural and
literary heritage and its deep historical interest). A number of
exchanges between research groups in Cuba and outside have developed
as a result of these meetings, and it is hoped that this sort of
mutual exchange will continue to develop.
Lectures will be invited from prominent and internationally recognized
researchers from Cuba and other countries. There will be a number of
one-hour invited lectures as well as 30-minute contributed lectures.
Participants interested in presenting a talk, on a topic related to
the theme of the Workshop, are requested to send in a title and an
abstract together with the completed registration form by fax or
electronically, before Dec.31, 2001.
So far the response has been quite enthusiastic and we are expecting a
large number of participants from Africa, Europe, North and South
America and Cuba. In the next few days we shall be mailing a
preliminary list of speakers with titles of their lectures.
Proceedings:
It is expected that the proceedings of the Workshop will be
published (possibly in a special issue of the Revista de
Ciencias Matematicas, published by the University of Havana).
Contributions will be refereed before being accepted for
publication. Further information will be provided during
the Workshop.

SUMMER SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENT
Physics-Signal-Physics --- On the links between nonlinear physics
and information sciences
Les Houches, September 8-13, 2002
SCOPE
Nonlinear physics is a rapidly growing field. Recent theoretical and
phenomenological approaches allowed great progress in many domains as
different as turbulence, disordered systems, critical
phenomena,... Approaches developped by physicists have led
theoreticians in signal and image processing to define new models, and
to develop new processing techniques applicable in many fields of
information sciences. In parallel and independently, signal and image
processing has experienced numerous theoretical and algorithmic
developments in the fields of nonstationary and/or non Gaussian
signals, scaling processes, nonlinear systems,... These new techniques
have in return allowed significant progress in physics.
The aim of the session "Physics-Signal-Physics" is to review some of
these two way interactions between physics and signal, and from a more
general point of view, between physics and information sciences. The
session will be organized as a series of invited tutorial lectures
(topics will include stochastic resonance, chaos and solitons in
communications systems, complex networks, scaling laws, wavelets
for statistical modelling and PDE's, diffusive representations),
supplemented by contributed poster presentations from the participants.
