*************
Audio, video and CD player. It needs DirectX 9. Older version of DirectX may work, but some functions will not be available. Codecs are not part of the program, so you have to download them separately. Some codecs can be found on http://www.free-codecs.com

Installation
------------
Extract ZIP archive to any folder. Run the EXE file. In the Options dialog, select file extensions which will be associated to this player.

Uninstallation
--------------
Choose "Delete settings" from the File menu. It will remove settings from the Windows registry. Then you can delete program files from your disk.


Play files
----------
Files can be opened by:
(1) "Open files" (Ctrl+O). More files can by opened if they are in the same folder.
(2) "Open folder" (Ctrl+D). All subdirectories are searched recursively. You can select the entire drive.
(3) Double-click a file in the Explorer (if the extension is associated).
(4) Drag files or folders from the Explorer and drop them to the player window.
(5) Use Ctrl+C in the Explorer and then Ctrl+V in the player.
(6) "Open playlist" (Ctrl+P)

Press Ctrl or 'q' key if you only want to add files to the playlist, but not play them immediately.

DVD
---
Before you can play a DVD, you have to install some MPEG-2 decoder and AC3 filter. WARNING: Some MPEG-2 decoders don't work (e.g. Ligos and MainConcept). DScaler works, but not in the 256 color video mode. Both GPL and Gabest decoders work, but only if the Overlay Mixer is disabled (in the Tiny Player options on the Video tab). 
Use the menu command File\"Play DVD" to open a DVD. If you have copied files from DVD to the hard disk, you can open them by File\"Open files..." where you must select the file VIDEO_TS.IFO. The playlist item "DVD menu" has the same meaning as the command DVD\"Root menu". If your DVD has more than one title, you can double-click playlist items Title01, Title02 etc.      

Filters
-------
Names of used DirectShow filters are shown in the menu Filters. Some of them support property pages and have some advanced settings. It is sometimes necessary to use the button Pause to start playing, then change properties of the filter and then press the button Play.

Winamp plugins
--------------
If a file cannot be opened by DirectShow, then the player attempts to use Winamp plugins (www.winamp.com). Disadvantage is that a file is opened more slowly. If you have not Winamp installed, you can create folder "C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins" and put there only those plugins which you need. Plugin's file name must have dll extension and in_ prefix. 
Warning: Some plugin settings are ignored: title formatting, VBR display, fast layer 3 equalizer.
Note: Winamp plugin is not used unless you uninstall DirectShow filter. For example, DirectShow MP3 Decoder can be uninstalled by command regsvr32 /u l3codecx.ax.

freedb
------
Command "CD information" (in the File menu) opens dialog window to edit infomation about CD which is currently inserted in the drive. You can download entries from the internet freedb database or you can edit them manually. At first you have to create a folder (for example C:\cddb) in which the entries will be stored. Then write name of this folder into Options / LocalCDDB box. If you use ExactAudioCopy, CDex or other ripper, you probably already have some database. In that case, don't create a new folder, but find out where is your existing database and which format and encoding does it use. Unix format uses 8-characters file names. Windows format has 6-characters file names where the middle characters are "to". Many applications support only ISO-8859-1 or CP1252 encoding. However, it is recommended to select UTF-8 encoding for a new database, because it can handle all languages.
Never write info completely in capitals or completely lower case, if there is no special reason for that. For bands that have a leading "the", simply leave out the "the" (e.g. use "Rolling Stones" instead of "The Rolling Stones"). Names of people should be written "first name last name" - NOT "last name, first name". When the CD is a compilation, you should include the artist in the track name, using the syntax "artist / track-title" and set the CD-artist to "Various".
The combo box freedb is used to select a directory where the file will be saved. 
If you get info about a quite different CD, you can fill in info about your CD, change freedb category and then submit. It is important to choose another category from the freedb combo box, otherwise previous CD info will be overwritten.
If you get wrong info about your CD (e.g. spelling mistakes, unknown year or genre), then you should correct it and resubmit. The freedb category MUST NOT be changed, otherwise there will be two entries in the database that belong to the same CD.
Your E-mail address is required for submit (not for query). You will receive an email only if submit fails.
Never submit information about burned CD, because it may have different track offsets than original CD (especially when you used TAO method to burn the CD or when you added two second gaps between tracks).
Playback order field can contain a comma-separated list of track numbers. They are indexed from zero. The button after this edit box fills in the current playlist order.


Options - Start
---------------
Allow multiple instances:  Allow more than one player window.

Register extensions at player start-up:  Associate file types to this player every time the program starts. Otherwise they are associated only at the moment when you press the OK button in the options dialog box.

Media files extensions:  These semicolon-separated file types are shown in "Open file" window. These types are also chosen by command "Open folder". 

Associated extensions:  If you double-click a file of this extension in the Explorer (or your favourite file manager), then the Tiny Player plays the file. Files which have different extension are opened by the Windows Media Player or other installed player.

Process priority:  "Normal" or "Above normal" priority is recommended. "Above normal" and "Below normal" does not work on Windows 95/98/ME.

Options - General
-----------------
When loading multiple files, sort them by path and name:  Files are sorted if they were opened by "Open files" or "Open folder". It doesn't apply to "Play audio CD" and "Playlist/Open". 

Enable screensaver when no video is playing:  It is useful if you don't use visualization. Screensaver is always disabled during video playback.

Load next track in advance:  Next file in the playlist will be opened before previous file ends. It is needed only on slow computers and if the audio buffer is small.

Jump forward/backward:  Commands "Jump forward" and "Jump backward" are in the "Control" menu. You can also add buttons on a toolbar.

Interval of redrawing position and subtitles:  Recommended values are between 100 and 980. Smaller values increase processor usage. 

Options - Playlist
-------------------
Automatically display length and bitrate of all files in the playlist:  If this option is disabled, then columns "Length" and "Bitrate" are empty until you use menu command "Read lengths".

ISO-8859-1 encoding for ID3 and APEv1 tags:  Show file properties in Western European encoding. 

Columns:  Each line in the options edit box represents one column in the playlist. Maximal number of columns is 16. Text in brackets is displayed only if at least one field referenced inside the bracktes has been found. 
Example: [%ar - ][%tr. ]%ti[ \[%ye\]]
Backslash means that a character after the backslash is normally displayed and not interpreted as a command ( % , [ , ], \ ). 

Window title: The text which is visible in the window title bar. Information about the current playlist item can be displayed by % fields.

Options - Audio1
----------------
Try to increase some values if you have problems (especially on slow computers). 
Buffer length:  Size of the memory where output samples are written and from where the audio card reads them. 
Prebuffer:  How soon after opening a file you hear the sound. This value cannot be greater than buffer length.
Track change:  How long does it take when you start playing another item in the playlist. Video files ignore this value.

Option "Write audio samples to the buffer every 100 ms" is useful if you want more smooth and invariable processor usage, but recommended option is "Create notification positions".

If you check "Audio device:" then you can choose DirectSound/WaveOut and select a sound card (if you have more than one). But the equalizer will be disabled, you will not be able to change speed of some files, there will be gaps between tracks in a playlist. The audio device is not used to play CD and for Winamp plugins.

Options - Audio2
----------------
Interval of redrawing visualization:  This value should be a multiple of 10 ms or 20 ms (it depends on Windows version).

Visualization priority:  Recommended priority is "below normal". 

Equalizer:  Frequencies that are visible in equalizer. Maximal number of frequencies is 20.

Options - Video
---------------
Keep aspect ratio when resizing video:  Ratio between window width and height does not change when you resize the video window by a mouse.

Keep aspect ratio in full screen:  If you don't check this option, video ratio in fullscreen will be adjusted to 4:3. Otherwise you will see black bars at the screen top/bottom or left/right sides. This option does not apply to 16:9 movies.

Hide mouse cursor: The mouse arrow will not be visible inside the video window. This option is ignored in fullscreen mode.

Overlay Mixer:  Try to switch this if you have problems with colors or acceleration.

Options - Subtitles
-------------------
Automatically open subtitles:  If a video file is opened, its subtitles file is opened too. Prefix of subtitles file name has to be equal to a video file name. (For example xyz.avi file can have subtitles xyzENG.sub).

Maximum subtitle display time:  Some subtitles files contain only start times, but not end times. 

Subtitles folder:  The player looks for subtitles in the same folder where is an AVI file and then in this subtitles folder. 

Options - CD drive
------------------
Digital audio extraction:  If you disable this option, system MCI interface will be used. It usually plays CD through analog cable which connects a CD drive and a sound card. Visualization, equalizer and speed change will be disabled.

Read command:  It depends on your drive type and manufacturer.

Big endian:  Don't check this unless you hear loud noise instead of music.

Speed:  Recommended speed is 4x. Some drives ignore this value. "Max" means that the player will not change the speed.

Number of sectors to get each read:  You can increase this in order to decrease processor usage.

Enable CD-TEXT:  Some older drives does not support CD-TEXT and can make errors when the player tries to get it. CD-TEXT is usually on burned CD. Original bought CD usually does not have it. 


Tips & tricks
-------------
* Move mouse in fullscreen to show the main window. Right-click on the video to bring it to foreground.
* Click left mouse button in fullscreen to pause the video.
* Click on the column headers to sort the playlist. Click on the first column header to sort by file path and file name.
* Use mouse to change order of items in the playlist. You can select and drag more than one item.
* If the play button is pressed during playback, a file is restarted from the beginning. If you double-click on the current item in the playlist, the file is stopped and then restarted.
* Click on the time to switch mode between elapsed/remaining time.
* File properties (author, title, video size, frame rate) can be discovered only during playback.
* Right-click on the visualization switches to the next plugin.
* Double-click on the visualization shows a configuration window.
* Audio from any media file can be extracted to a WAV file (menu Control\Sound). The sound is muted and the conversion is faster if the Visualization is off. Turn the Visualization on if you also want to listen to the saved music. If the original file is on a CD-ROM then the WAV is written to the TinyPlayer's installation folder.
* You can download program HotkeyP (from the author's web page) which can be used to define keyboard shortcuts to control player even if the window is hidden or minimized.

Known bugs and problems
-----------------------
* Video frame rate is detected only for AVI, MPEG or OGM movies. Other video types have unknown frame rate => time correction is needed for subtitles.
* Capture frames to BMP is not accurate. Usually some later or previous frame is saved.
* MIDI files don't support visualization, equalizer and cannot change speed.
* Digital CD playback does not correct errors.
