Microsoft Help Workshop is a DOS application that converts .RTF files to the format required by WinHelp .HLP files, incorporates graphics files, and creates the required look-up tables for help context strings and context IDs. Select the Windows 95 Help icon (or whatever icon is assigned to the help compiler) to start Microsoft Help Workshop. Load the help project file either by selecting File | Open or by selecting from the MRU file list if the project help file was previously opened.

Figure 23.13 shows the results of compiling the Helpex.hpj file using Microsoft Help Workshop. A number of errors were flagged in the compilation stage, but the help file was generally usable for testing purposes. (However, you wouldn't want to distribute a help file with these errors.)
You can find the cause of an error (and suggested fixes) by searching the Microsoft Help Workshop help file for the error number. In Figure 23.13, the help error message HC1003 is highlighted, and the appropriate Help Author's Guide topic is displayed.</NOTE>

Microsoft Help Workshop can run in a noninteractive mode. This mode isn't documented by Microsoft, and programmers shouldn't need it directly. Microsoft Help Workshop is called in noninteractive mode by Visual C++ 4 when a project's help file is being rebuilt.
