A document attached to a Binder can either be stored in it, or only referenced by it, meaning that only a reference to the document is kept in the Binder, and that the document is actually stored in another content repository. </p> <p> The Binder API service lets you create, update, delete and check the existence of electronic binder instances. It also lets you grant, revoke and check access permissions of users on binder instances. </p> <p> The Binder API is exposed as a Portlet service, and as such, comes in two flavors: <A HREF="../../../../../com/ibm/content/binder/service/BinderPortletService.html" title="interface in com.ibm.content.binder.service"><CODE>BinderPortletService</CODE></A> which can be used by JSR-168 compliant portlets, and <A HREF="../../../../../com/ibm/content/binder/service/BinderPortletServiceIBM.html" title="interface in com.ibm.content.binder.service"><CODE>BinderPortletServiceIBM</CODE></A> which can be used by legacy (IBM) portlets. The two flavors offer the exact same features. </p> <p> To use the Binder API service, you need to get an instance of either one of the two flavors of the service interface.
