If you know the base you'll want in advance, it's more efficient to cache the log of the base instead of recalculating it every time.</P><PRECLASS="programlisting"># log_base defined as above$answer = log_base(10, 10_000);print "log10(10,000) = $answer\n";<CODECLASS="userinput"><B><CODECLASS="replaceable"><I>log10(10,000) = 4</I></CODE></B></CODE></PRE><PCLASS="para">The <ACLASS="indexterm"NAME="ch02-idx-1000008075-0"></A>Math::Complex module does the caching for you via its <CODECLASS="literal">logn()</CODE><ACLASS="indexterm"NAME="ch02-idx-1000008076-0"></A> routine, so you can write:</P><PRECLASS="programlisting">use Math::Complex;printf "log2(1024) = %lf\n", logn(1024, 2); # watch out for argument order!<CODECLASS="userinput"><B><CODECLASS="replaceable"><I>log2(1024) = 10.000000</I></CODE></B></CODE></PRE><PCLASS="para">even though no complex number is involved here.
