January 12th, 2000 Robin Miller Last Updated: February 19th, 2000	The following changes were made to 'dt' Version 13.6: o	For Tru64 cluster systems, make the EEI reset handling more	bullet proof. The new logic retries open() attempts, does not	fail close() when processing resets, and retries operations	failed with EEI_NO_STATUS while processing reset conditions. o	For Tru64 Unix (zulu), added "flags=direct" to enable direct	I/O (disables file system caching). o	Added multi-volume media support via "enable=multi" option.	A single large file can be written to span multiple tapes, or	you can specify "files=value" to write multiple tape files	that span multiple tapes. This support is general enough to	be used with any removable media. o	Added read-after-write support via "enable=raw". This can also	be used with tapes (backspace/read done after each record written).	Note: This may become the default for random access devices. o	Fixed problem with random I/O data limits being exceeded. The	upper and lower random I/O limits are now enforced, and a sanity	check is done at startup to ensure your data limits are alright. o	The "lba=" option now seeks to specified block address. This	lba is relative to the start of the partition used (of course).	This still enables the lbdata option, which means the lba gets	stored in the first 4 bytes of each data block. You can use	"disable=lbdata" after if you don't want this lba encoding.	Note: "position=" option takes precedence over "lba=" option. o	The IOT and Lbdata options now work with seek or skip options	when testing disk devices (lba is determined from the file offset). o	Writes of zero length now get flagged as a error, instead of EOF. o	New "enable=rdebug" option to enable random I/O debug only. o	New "rseed=value" option to specify the random I/O seed. This	allows you to repeat random I/O sequences. When random I/O is	enabled, the total statistics displays the seed used. o	IOT pattern now works properly with AIO to multiple tape files. o	IOT logical block number now reported on data compare errors. o	When testing multiple tape files with the IOT or Lbdata options,	the block number is now continued from the previous tape file.	This provides better verification in case file position is lost. o	Specifying ralign, rlimit, or rseed options now automatically	enables random I/O, thus iotype=random is not necessary too. o	Added checks at EOF with/multi-volume enabled, so Copy/Verify	operations properly prompt for the next volume. This allows 'dt'	to be used as a general purpose multi-volume tool w/other utilities.	Within Compaq, the updated 'dt' kits are located @ URL: http://www.zk3.dec.com/~rmiller/dt.html	External to Compaq, you can obtain 'dt' kits from URL: http://www.bit-net.com/~rmiller/dt.htmlCheers,Robin================================================================================Example showing read-after-write option:----------------------------------------tru64% dt of=/dev/rfd0c min=b max=64k incr=7b iotype=random enable=raw runtime=3mRead After Write Statistics: Total records processed: 100 with min=512, max=65536, incr=3584 Total bytes transferred: 2949120 (2880.000 Kbytes, 2.812 Mbytes) Average transfer rates: 16923 bytes/sec, 16.526 Kbytes/sec Number I/O's per second: 0.574 Total passes completed: 1 Total errors detected: 0/1 Total elapsed time: 02m54.26s Total system time: 00m00.01s Total user time: 00m00.16sTotal Statistics: Output device/file name: /dev/rfd0c (Device: floppy, type=disk) Type of I/O's performed: random (seed 0xa775f81) Data pattern read/written: 0x00ff00ff Total records processed: 109 with min=512, max=65536, incr=3584 Total bytes transferred: 3011072 (2940.500 Kbytes, 2.872 Mbytes) Average transfer rates: 16642 bytes/sec, 16.252 Kbytes/sec Number I/O's per second: 0.602 Total passes completed: 1 Total errors detected: 0/1 Total elapsed time: 03m00.93s Total system time: 00m00.01s Total user time: 00m00.16s Starting time: Wed Jan 12 16:38:38 2000 Ending time: Wed Jan 12 16:41:43 2000tru64% ================================================================================Example showing multi-volume option:------------------------------------linux% dt of=/dev/st0 bs=32k files=4 limit=50m pattern=iot enable=multiPlease insert volume #2 in drive /dev/st0...
