September 9, 1993 (Modified Dec 20, 1999)To persons interested in FORTRAN programs RCN, RCN2, and RCG: My atomic-spectra programs have been upgraded to RCN36, RCN236,and RCG11 by modifying common statements to make a common of givenname the same length in all routines and make the number of integer-variable words of storage an even number if followed by a floating-point variable. Also all quirks of compilers on a CRAY, VAX, SUN, orIBM System/6000 RISC have been taken into account, except that on theIBM version 1.0 FORTRAN compiler, backspaces in RCG do not work, sobe certain that you use at least version 2.0 (or maybe 2.02).The codes also run on Power Macintosh computers, using the LanguageSystems Fortran compiler or the Absoft compiler, and on PCcompatibles, using the GNU g77 and similar compilers. The three source files (VAX/MAC versions) and various sampleinput data files have been placed in a public ftp directory ftp/pub/cowanon the Los Alamos t4 network, and can be accessed via the World Wide Web,using the URL (Web address) ftp://aphysics.lanl.gov/pub/cowan/or go to http://www.t4.lanl.govand follow links to my codes. For use on other computers, in each of the three programs modifythe timing routine SUBROUTINE SECONDS by commenting out the VAX sectionand uncommenting the appropriate section, or add code pertinate tothe computer in question. If necessary, one may simply set t to 0.0,as times are for information only. The files rcng.UNIX and rcng.VMS are procedure files for userespectively on UNIX and VMS systems for performing completeRCN/RCN2/RCG calculations one after the other. The included RCN inputconfigurations for a test calculation in K+5 can of course bereplaced, using a suitable editor, for calculations in any otheratomic system. The files diel.UNIX and diel.VMS are analogoussample files for making autoionization-rate/dielectronic-recombin-ation-rate calculations in Se+24. The other files are mainly sampleinput and output data files for the three calculations useable fordebugging purposes. For a first RCG calculation, use ing11k (renameding11) as input in order to calculate binary files TAPE72, TAPE73, andTAPE74 for subsequent RCG calculations; this input file contains all cfpdecks that can be used in RCG with the dimensions provided. The fileCFP includes additional cfp decks (for f5, f6, f7, f8, f9, and f10),but these can be used in RCG only if numerous dimensions are increasedappropriately, as described by comment cards in the RCG sourceprogram, lines 134 to 152. [Note: The normal input file names are in36,in2, and ing11; also, ine20 for a program RCE not described here.] Relative computing times on the CRAY, SUN, IBM RISC, and someMacintosh and PC desk computers are roughly: RCN RCN2 RCG RCE CRAY(Y-MP): 1.0 1.0 1.0 1.0 SUN(Sparc2): 15 4 2 SUN(Sparc20): 4 SUN Ent. 3500 1 5 0.3 0.2 IBM930: 4 1.3 0.2 IBM550: 2.5 0.7 0.2 IBM320H(32H): 4 1.2 0.3 MAC 6500/300 2.4 20 4 6 MAC G3/350 2.8 75 7 Pow. If you have no FTP facility, I can try sending the files directlyby e-mail (with RCG divided into three sections). If you have no e-mail facility at all, I can write the files on3 1/2 inch 1.4 Mbyte floppy diskettes in Macintosh format or in DOSformat. Robert D. There are 30-odd files in the anonymous ftp directory. (Ignorethe "jmann" and "nils" subdirectories and files therein.) This includesalso a least-squares level-fitting program RCE not mentioned above. The three writeups contain only partial sample input and output--hard-copy writeups including longer sample output with hand-writtenexplanatory notes are available upon request to the author.
