                Introductory Tutorial.

   In this tutorial we will cover the following topics:

(1) Running the genetic algorithm.

(2) Looking at the data output from the algorithm.

(3) One way of resetting the algorithm to run again.

           Running the Genetic Algorithm(GA)

   From the Run menu select the GA option.  You
should see (depending on the speed of your
computer and the number of buyers and sellers)
a slider move from left to right.  When the
slider disappears four small data displays
appear, showing bids, maximum profits, profits,
and transmission capacity used.

   The next screen explains how to look at a larger
version of just one of these displays.

                 Displaying Data

   When the GA has been run all four sets of data
are displayed.  The Display menu has the following
options (try each):

 All - displays all three data sets at small size.
 Bids - displays average bids at full size.
 Logo - displays the program startup screen.
 Max. Profit - displays maximum profits at full size.
 Nothing - clears the program area.
 Profits - displays average profits at full size.
 Transcaps - displays use of transmission capacity.

              Continuing the Simulation.

   The GA runs for 10-200 cycles of local improvement
in bidding strategy.  If you run the GA again it will
continue with the current bidding strategies and
will process them for 10-200 more cycles.

   Try running the GA again by using the GA entry off
of the Run menu.  The slider should again slide and
then the program will display the data for the next
set of cycles of improvement in bidding strategy.
The next screen tells you a way to start the GA over.

                  Resetting the GA

   Under the Genetics menu is the entry Reset genes.
This entry sets the buyers genes to all ones and
sellers genes to all zeros, the default values.
Other tutorials explain how to select random genes
or directly edit the buyer's and seller's genes for
experiments.  To start over select the Reset Genes
entry off of the Genetics menu and then the GA entry
off of the Run menu.
