This CD contains:
o The primary examples from each chapter of the book "The Verilog PLI
Handbook", by Stuart Sutherland, published by Kluwer Academic
Publishers, copyright 1999.
o The directory "Examples_PC" contains subdirectories for each
chapter from the book. The files in each directory are all
text files, with DOS style carriage returns and line-feeds.
NOTE: Long file names are used (as supported by Windows 95
and Windows NT).
o The directory "Examples_UNIX" contains subdirectories for each
chapter from the book. The files in each directory are all
text files, with UNIX style carriage returns.
o A comprehensive example of using C sockets to establish
communications between a Verilog Simulation and an
independent C program. This example is provided courtesy
of David Roberts, of Cadence Design Systems.
o An evaluation version of the Model Technology ModelSim PE
Verilog simulator, for Windows 95/98/NT operating systems.
This simulator will run many of the examples included in
Chapters 8 through 18 of this CD. Refer to the README.txt
file in the ModelSim_Simulator subdirectory for more
information on this evaluation copy of ModelSim PE.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: The examples from the PLI book were tested using
the Cadence Verilog-XL simulator. Every effort was made to ensure
that the examples are accurate and correct. I am very interested
in any suggestions on improving the examples, or about any bugs
that are found. Please e-mail at stuart@sutherland.com. I will
maintain an up-to-date version of these examples on my web page,
at www.sutherland.com. Please refer to this page for a list of
errata in the book and updates to examples.
I hope you find these examples useful in learning and understanding
the very complex topic of the Verilog Programming Language Interface!
Stu Sutherland
