The file must be a single-channel file. If the file is complex, onlythe real part is plotted. For multi-channel or complex files,consider using \fIdemux\fP (1\-\s-1ESPS\s+1) together with.mc |\fIplotsd\fP, or \fIgenplot\fP (1\-\s-1ESPS\s+1) to plot directly..mc.PPIf.I fileis "\-", the standard input is read..mc |By default,the output is in Unix GPS (``Graphics Primitive String'') formatand is displayed on the Masscomp or Sun display (using \fImcd\fR), but with the.B \-Toption, this may be sent to the standard output,obtained in Tektronix format rather than GPS,or plotted on a hardcopy device..mc.PP.mc |.mc.PP.mc *.mcIf the \fB\-p\fP option is omitted, then the \fIrange\fP is computedfrom the parameter and common files; otherwise the entire contentsof .I file is used as the default range. .PP.I Plotsdfinds the maximum and minimum values in the specified range and computes appropriate scales for the .IR x -and .IR y -axes.These automatic values can be overriden by the .B \-yor.B \-Y options. .PPWhen displayed on the screen (see EXAMPLES, below), the plotswill take a long time if every point is plotted. For this reason, .I plotsdplots a maximum of approximately 3000 points across the range specified by the user (intermediate points are skipped). This behaviorcan be changed by means of the .B \-M option. .PP.I Plotsdwill run faster if the .B \-Yoption is used, especially in the case of large files. .mc |.PPOn Masscomp workstations the color and line style of output to ``gps'' or ``mcd'' depend on theenvironment variable BUNDLE. The default is GPS bundle number 20, whichgives solid lines on monochrome displays..mc.SH OPTIONS.PPThe following options are supported:.TP.BI \-p " first:last".TP.BI \-p " first:+incr.TP.BI \-r " first:last".TP.BI \-r " first:+incrDetermines the range of points to be plotted. In the first form(first:last), a pair of unsigned integers gives the first and lastpoints of the range. If.I firstis omitted, 1 is used. If .I last is omitted, the last point in the file is used. The second form(first:+incr) is equivalent to the first with.I "last = first + incr". The \fB-r\fP is a synonym for \fB-p\fP. .TP.BI \-s " range"Select a range of points to be plotted in seconds. For compatibility withDSC LISTEN, the beginning of the file is 0..TP.BI \-t " text"A line of text to be printed below the plot. Up to ten.B \-toptions may be specified; they are printed as text lines in order below theplot..TP.BI \-x " level"If.I levelis nonzero, debugging information is written to the standard error output.Default is 0 (no debugging output)..TP.BI \-y " low:high"Specifies approximate lower and upper limits for the .IR y -axis.The values are adjusted by .I plotsdin an attempt to make an esthetically pleasing plot. .TP.BI \-E " expansion"The range selected by the.B \-poption or by the parameter and common files is shown in a contextconsisting of additional points at each end.The selected range is expanded by a fraction given by the argument.I expansionplus an additional amount chosen to make the endpoints round numbers.The expanded range is plotted, and the ends of the actually chosen range areflagged with vertical lines labeled with the.IR x- coordinatevalues..TP.BI \-M " maxpnts\fR [3000]\fP"Specifies that .I plotsdplot up to an approximate maximum of .I maxpnts points. If the total number of points in the .I rangeexceeds .I maxpnts,points are skipped evenly throughout.As a special case,.I maxpnts= 0 specifies that no points are to be skipped..TP.mc |.BI \-T " device".I Devicemay be.BR gps ,.BR mcd ,.BR tek ,.BR suntools ,or.BR hardcopy .The default is.BR \-Tmcd,which displays the output on the Sun or Masscomp screen by piping it through.I mcd (on Masscomp systems \fImcd\fR is supplied by Masscomp, on Suns,it is supplied by ESI).Specifying.B \-Tgpssends output to the standard output in Masscomp Unix GPS format.Specifying.B \-Ttekcauses output to be sent to the standard output in Tektronix 4000-seriesformat.If.B \-Tsuntoolsis used, then the display will be forced to use \fIsuntools\fR windowsystem (on Suns and Solbournes only), even if ESPS has been configuredto use the X window system. If ESPS is built for X, then it uses X forplotting by default.If.B \-Tmcdis used on a Masscomp and ESPS has been configured to use X windows,then the old SP-40 \fImcd\fR is used instead of X windows.Specifying.B \-Thardcopyplots it on a hardcopy device, if one was set up in the installationscript. Note that the word \fIimagen\fR was used for this option inprevious versions. It is still accepted, but \fIhardcopy\fR is meantto be more general..TP.mc.BI \-Y " low:high"Specifies exact lower and upper limits for the .IR y -axis..TP.BI \-WThis option is followed by a character.mc |string consisting of the generic window system options. These options arepassed onto \fImcd\fR or \fIxmcd\fR. This option is used to pass along generic X windowarguments to \fIxmcd\fR or Suntool arguments to \fImcd\fR on Suns. Thisoption might not have an effect on all systems. For example, on a.mcsystem running X windows, to cause the plot to appear at a particularscreen location the following command could be used: .mc *.mc.br\fIplotsd -W "=300x250+50+200" file\fR..mc |.brSee \fImcd(1\-ESPS)\fR and \fIxmcd(1\-ESPS)\fR for details..pp.mcIf the file to be plotted contains data of a single value, then thehorizontal grid is suppressed. Otherwise the horizontal plot tends toget lost on top of a grid line..SH EXAMPLE.IP.BI "plotsd " "<options> <filename>".mc |.PPis equivalent to.IP.BI "plotsd \-Tgps " "<options> <filename> " "| mcd".PPThe second form may be used if nondefault options for.I mcdare desired..PPFor Sun systems, this program will plot under either X windows, orSuntools. By default, if the \fB-T\fR option is not used, it will expect X windows. To plot under Suntools you can use the \fB-Tsuntools\fRoption. If you always use Suntools, you can avoid using the \fB-T\fRoption by defining the environment variable \fBEPLOTDEV\fR to be\fIsuntools\fR. This will make the Suntools window system the default.This variable is ignored if the machine type is not Sun4, SUN3, orSUN386i..mc.SH "ESPS PARAMETERS"No ESPS parameter file is read..SH "ESPS COMMON"The following items are read from the ESPS Common file. The default ESPS Common file is .espscom in the user's home directory. This may be overidden by settingthe environment variable ESPSCOM to the desired path. User feedback ofCommon processing is determined by the environment variable ESPS_VERBOSE,with 0 causing no feedback and increasing levels causing increasinglydetailed feedback.
