.SH DESCRIPTION
.I Rossps 
converts a file of sampled speech that has been transferred from a
Rosetta into a SPS sampled data file.    
The input file is assumed to
be in the correct format; little or no checking will be done on the
input file.

If the input file name is replaced by a "\-" then the standard input
is used.  If the output name is replaced by a "\-" then the standard
output is used.  In either case, a file name or a "\-" must be
specified.

If the option
.B \-r
is given, then the header field \fIhd.sd->sf\fR is set to the sample
frequency specified.  Otherwise it is set to 8000.

If the
.B \-c
option is used, the sampled data is corrected for a two's compliment arithmetic
error which occurs in the Rosetta.  This has the effect of adding one to
all numbers in the file less than zero.
.SH SPS PARAMETERS

The SPS parameter file is not used.
.SH SPS HEADER
.PP
A new file header is created for the output SD file.   This new header
has the following SD header fields filled in by
.I rossps:
\fIhd.sd->equip\fR is set to NONE, \fIhd.sd->sf\fR is set to the value
following the \fB\-r\fR flag if given, or 8000.   All other fields are
set to zero or to NONE as appropriate.
In the common part of the header, \fIcommon.ndrec\fR is set to the
number of samples converted, the file name of the input file is stored
in the first position of the \fIvariable.source\fR field, and the
command line that invoked 
.I rossps
is stored in the \fIvariable.comment\fR field.   The data type of the
output SD file is short integer.

When the 
.B \-c
option is used, the following line is added to the comment field: 
"Arithmetic correction made to negative numbers.".
.SH DIAGNOSTICS
The program will print a message and exit if 
.I ifile 
or
.I ofile 
cannot be opened.
