Due to an increase in demand for and questions about direct disk
access for Micrososft platforms, and due to the fact that Microsoft
has no API for direct disk access, I am releasing this library
much earlier than I intended at that start. I am still working on
this code.

This is the ALPHA version of DISKLIB, a library of DISK I/O
functions for DOS and Windows. Please read this file in full.

Highlights:

*   This version is Microsoft, Watcom and DJGPP compatible.

*   This version will work (more or less, see below) with DOS,
    Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT.

Lowlights:

*   THIS IS _ALPHA_ SOFTWARE. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

*   SOME OF THE CODE IS NOT FINISHED; SOME JUST RECENTLY MODIFIED.

*   SECTOR WRITING HAS NOT BEEN FULLY TESTED. See the test BOOTAW.C
    test program.

*   WINDOWS 98 AND FAT32 SUPPORT ARE NOT 100% FINISHED.

*   On Windows 95 there lacks physical drive support for hard disks.

*   There is no real documentation other than the code itself.

*   This version lacks the pre-compiled LIB files and binaries
    (there are several test and example programs).

*   This version's error reporting functions and Windows's test
    programs are only console apps.

*   There are several DJGPP specific files which always seem to
    lag behind the others in the latest updates and fixes.

*   The Windows NT files also lag behind the others at times.


I hope to eventually offer a "Quality Product", this is just an
ALPHA version and may just have problems.
