Useraccounts are unable to destroy the system by mistake, so it is generally best to usenormal user accounts whenever possible, unless you especially need the extraprivilege.</p><p>You should always double and triple-check commands you issue as the superuser, sincean extra space or missing character can mean irreparable data loss.</p><p>So, the first thing you should do after reading this chapter is to create anunprivileged user account for yourself for general usage if you have not already. Thisapplies equally whether you are running a multi-user or single-user machine. Later inthis chapter, we discuss how to create additional accounts, and how to change between thenormal user and superuser.</p></div><div class="NAVFOOTER"><hr align="LEFT" width="100%" /><table summary="Footer navigation table" width="100%" border="0" cellpadding="0"cellspacing="0"><tr><td width="33%" align="left" valign="top"><a href="users-introduction.html"accesskey="P">Prev</a></td><td width="34%" align="center" valign="top"><a href="index.html"accesskey="H">Home</a></td><td width="33%" align="right" valign="top"><a href="users-system.html"accesskey="N">Next</a></td></tr><tr><td width="33%" align="left" valign="top">Introduction</td><td width="34%" align="center" valign="top"><a href="users.html"accesskey="U">Up</a></td><td width="33%" align="right" valign="top">System Accounts</td></tr></table></div><p align="center"><small>This, and other documents, can be downloaded from <ahref="ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/doc/">ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/doc/</a>.</small></p><p align="center"><small>For questions about FreeBSD, read the <ahref="http://www.FreeBSD.org/docs.html">documentation</a> before contacting &#60;<ahref="mailto:questions@FreeBSD.org">questions@FreeBSD.org</a>&#62;.<br />For questions about this documentation, e-mail &#60;<ahref="mailto:doc@FreeBSD.org">doc@FreeBSD.org</a>&#62;.</small></p></body></html>
