Rtpmon 1.0 Alpha Release Notes

Rtpmon is a tool for viewing RTCP feedback packets from a session
using the Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP).  It presents loss rate
and jitter information from RTCP Receiver Report (RR) packets in a
tabular format.  The table can be sorted by various parameters and the
recent history of reports from a particular receiver can be viewed in
a stripchart.

This is an alpha release of rtpmon.  The basic functionality is in
place although we still plan to add many enhancements.  We are making
it available now so that we can get feedback and make it as useful as
possbile.  The man page (distributed with the source as rtpmon.1) has
a basic description of how to use rtpmon but it is still incomplete.

The source code is available via anonymous ftp from:

We also plan to make pre-compiled binaries available there.  If you
have compiled rtpmon on a platform for which a binary is not
available, please let us know so that we can make it available from
our ftp site.

Compiling and installing rtpmon is (hopefully!) a painless process.
You need Tcl 7.5 and Tk 4.1, both of which are available from
ftp://ftp.smli.com/pub/tcl.  You also need a C++ compiler.  All of our
development has been done using the GNU C and C++ compilers but the
code does not take advantage of any features unique to them.  To
simplify the process of building rtpmon from source, a configuration
script produced using GNU autoconf is included.  The configure script
has two optional arguments, --with-tcl=/path and --with-tk=/path.
These should be used if the configure script cannot find your Tcl and
Tk libraries.  More details about GNU autoconf and how to use the
configure script are available at in the autoconf documentation,

If you are using recent versions of vic and vat (2.7b1 or later for
vic, 4.0b1 or later for vat), adding the contents of the file VIC.TCL
to ~/.vic.tcl and/or ~/.vat.tcl will add a button labeled "Monitor"
which will automatically start rtpmon on a session.
