<H3>CANopen device profile for measuring devices and closed-loop
controllers</H3>
<P>The device profile for transducers and closed-loop controllers (CiA DS 404)
is dedicated to analog sensors and actuators that may also provide digital I/O
capability. In addition, the profile is suitable for describing closed-loop
controllers collecting actual sensor signals and providing set values for the
actuators. Devices compliant to this profile may implement one or more of the
following functions:<BR><BR>- Analog input<BR>- Analog output<BR>- Close-loop
controller<BR>- Digital input<BR>- Digital output<BR><BR>The device may support
up to 199 channels. Each channel may provide one, many or all of the
above-mentioned functions. The analog input function distinguishes field value
and process value. The field value could be a non-scaled reading from the
analog/digital converter, a counting from the incremental encoder, or a
calibrated electrical value provided by a transformer. This value is converted
to the real physical dimension or the measured quality, and the result is called
process value. Examples for process value are a value in kg for weight
measurement, a value in centigrade for temperature measurement, or a value in mm
for displacement measurement.<BR><BR>For the conversion from filed value to
process value the profile supports a linear transformation. Two pairs of field
values and corresponding process values called calibration point 1 and 2 define
this linear transformation. Non-linear transformation (e.g. for thermo-couplers,
PT100-sensors) is possible and is defined within the sensor type parameter. In
addition, the device designer may define a sensor-specific transformation in the
manufacturer-specific range of Object Dictionary entries. The calibration
characteristic can be shifted by an additional input offset value. The profile
defines also auto-zero, tare-zero, auto-tare, and auto-calibration
functions.<BR><BR>The closed-loop controller functionality describes the PID
algorithm for controlling all kinds of process values. The PID controller
supports two set points, a manual override, and a self-optimization. It can be
configured as 2-point or 3-point controller. The output of the PID controller
can be limited, e.g. in order to insure minimum and maximum pressure. Via the
self-optimization algorithm it is possible to calculate the necessary PID
parameters automatically. Due to different implementations the starting
conditions have to be noticed. In the 3-point mode, a neutral zone can be
defined by two parameters. These parameters have the same physical unit as the
current value.<BR><BR>The profile defines also an alarm function generating
messages according to pre-defined conditions such as sensor fault, signal value
exceeding, difference between signals exceeding, etc. There may be up to 16
alarm trigger definitions per channel.<BR>Multi-channel sensor devices compliant
to this profile may be connected to one or more actuator devices or closed-loop
controllers. These sensor signal-collecting devices may provide a second CANopen
network interface in which they are acting as a device providing sensor signals.
This allows the design of cascaded transducer networks with a maximum of 199 by
126 analog input channels and up to 199 by 126 analog output channels in each
CANopen network.<BR></P></DIV></DIV><!-----------------------------------------------------------------><!-- --><!-- FOOTER definition --><!-- --><!----------------------------------------------------------------->
