The highly configurable nature of eCos allows theoperating system to be customised to precise application requirements, deliveringthe best possible run-time performance and an optimised hardware resourcefootprint. A thriving net community has grown up around the operating systemensuring on-going technical innovation and wide platform support.</p><p>For further information concerning eCos, please refer to the<a href="about.html">about eCos</a> page. eCos is not related to the Linuxoperating system.</p><h2>eCos news</h2>    <table width=100% cellpadding=5><tr><td width=15% valign=top><i>April 20, 2005</i></td><td><b>I<sup>2</sup>C infrastructure</b><p><a href="http://www.ecoscentric.com/">eCosCentric</a>has contributed <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%B2C">I<sup>2</sup>C</a> (Inter-Integrated Circuit) bus infrastructure from their eCosPro offering to eCos. The code and documentation are only available from the CVS repository at this time.</p></tr><tr><td width=15% valign=top><i>August 24, 2004</i></td><td><b>SPI infrastructure</b><p><a href="http://www.ecoscentric.com/">eCosCentric</a>has contributed <a href="http://wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_Peripheral_Interface_Bus">SPI</a> (Serial Peripheral Interface) bus infrastructure from their eCosPro offering to eCos. The code and documentation are only available from the CVS repository at this time.</p></tr><tr><td width=15% valign=top><i>April 14, 2004</i></td><td><b>PPP stack</b><p><a href="http://www.ecoscentric.com/">eCosCentric</a>has contributed a <a href="http://www.ecoscentric.com/devzone/ppp.shtml">PPP stack</a>based on FreeBSD source code. It is designed to be used in conjunction with theexisting FreeBSD TCP/IP stack.</p></tr><tr><td width=15% valign=top><i>February 04, 2004</i></td><td><b>eCos and RedBoot training course</b><p><a href="http://www.ecoscentric.com/">eCosCentric</a>has announced a <a href="http://www.ecoscentric.com/train-pub.shtml">publiceCos and RedBoot training course</a> which will be delivered on a periodic basis.The first course will be held in Cambridge, UK, April 19-22, 2004.</p></tr><tr><td width=15% valign=top><i>January 13, 2004</i></td><td><b>Red Hat contributes eCos copyright to Free Software Foundation</b><p><a href="http://www.redhat.com/">Red Hat</a> today <a href="http://www.redhat.com/about/presscenter/2004/press_eCosFSF.html">announced their intention</a> to transfer all their copyright in eCos to the <a href="http://www.fsf.org/">Free Software Foundation</a>. This will  consolidate the legal standing of eCos, and is a great benefit to the eCos community.</p><p>As eCos transitions to becoming an FSF project, there will be a number of changes, especially to the copyright assignment process for new contributions among other things.
