Historical databases are the most common example of this database configuration. Data warehousing databases are also known as Decision Support Systems (DSS).

<p>Oracle Configuration Assistants are Graphical User Interface (GUI) tools included with the Oracle9<em>i</em> software to assist you with configuring and fine-tuning your environment and system for optimal performance. Many of them start automatically when the installation is completed, depending on the selections you make when you run the Installer. You can also manually start the configuration assistants as standalone tools.

<p><a href="#i1103647">Database Upgrade Assistant</a> starts automatically when you select the Upgrade an Existing Database option. You can also choose not to select the option and run Database Upgrade Assistant independently after completing installation.

<p><a href="#i1101509">Database Configuration Assistant</a> starts automatically when you create an Oracle9<em>i</em> database during installation. 
</p>
</li>
<li type="disc">
<p><a href="#i1103712">Oracle HTTP Server Configuration Assistant</a> starts automatically when you install Oracle HTTP Server.

The Enterprise Manager Configuration Assistant will not launch automatically with any other installation process. You must manually launch it after exiting from the Installer.

<p><a id="sthref44" name="sthref44"></a><a href="#i1101502">Oracle Net Configuration Assistant</a> starts automatically for all Database installation types. The Oracle Net Configuration Assistant creates and modifies network configuration files located in the <code>&#036;ORACLE&#095;HOME&#047;network&#047;admin</code> directory. Depending on the installation type selected, Oracle Net Configuration Assistant configures the network for standard database connection methods or a customized network. 
</p>

<p><a href="#i1104333">Oracle Workflow Configuration Assistant</a> starts automatically only when you select Workflow from Oracle Management and Integration custom installation type. It installs and configures the Oracle Workflow Schema in the Oracle9<em>i</em> database.

<p>Agent Configuration Assistant starts the intelligent agent service automatically. This is invoked when the Agent is installed.

Oracle HTTP Server Configuration Assistant

<p>The Oracle HTTP Server Configuration Assistant starts the HTTP listener in non-SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) on port 7777. If port 7777 is not available, the Oracle HTTP Server Configuration Assistant defaults to port 7778.

Database Configuration Assistant
</font>
</h3>
<p><a id="sthref47" name="sthref47"></a><a id="sthref48" name="sthref48"></a><a id="sthref49" name="sthref49"></a>Database Configuration Assistant enables you to copy an Oracle9<em>i</em> preconfigured database, or create a fully customized database to match your selected environment and database configuration. It starts automatically after Oracle9<em>i</em> software has been installed during Oracle9<em>i</em> installation. 
</p>
<p>When installing Oracle9<em>i</em> software using any database configuration option other than the Custom and Software Only, the Oracle Universal Installer prompts for a global database name and System Identifier (SID). After Oracle9<em>i</em> installation is completed, the Database Configuration Assistant uses this information to create the <a id="sthref50" name="sthref50"></a><a id="sthref51" name="sthref51"></a>database. In addition, <a id="sthref52" name="sthref52"></a>the Database Configuration Assistant automatically configures the static service information for the Oracle9<em>i</em> database in the <a id="i1101518" name="i1101518"></a><code>listener.ora</code> file.
</p>
<p>The following list provides descriptions of database configurations:
</p>

<p><a id="sthref53" name="sthref53"></a><a id="sthref54" name="sthref54"></a>General Purpose configuration: If you select this option with an Enterprise Edition or Standard Edition installation, the Database Configuration Assistant creates a preconfigured, ready-to-use, multipurpose database with the following:

<p>Default initialization parameters using server parameter file and Automatic Undo Management
</p>
</li>
<li type="disc">
<p><a id="sthref55" name="sthref55"></a>Automatic installation and configuration of Oracle Options and <em>inter</em>Media
</p>

<p>Advanced Replication capabilities
</p>
</li>
<li type="disc">
<p>Database configuration of dedicated server mode
</p>
</li>
<li type="disc">
<p>Archiving mode of NOARCHIVELOG
</p>
</li>
</ul>

<p>Transaction Processing option: If you select this, the Database Configuration Assistant creates a preconfigured, ready-to-use OLTP database.
</p>
</li>
<li type="square">
<p>Data Warehouse option: If you select this, the Database Configuration Assistant creates a database that is fully enabled for data warehousing applications. The OLAP option, consisting of support for analytic workspaces and the OLAP catalog metadata repository (<code>CWMLite</code>), is included in the database.
</p>
</li>
<li type="square">
<p>Customized installation option: If you select this, the Database Configuration Assistant guides you in creating a fully customized database. You can choose to configure options, Oracle Text components and advanced replication either automatically or manually. 
</p>
<p>Select this option only if you are experienced with advanced database creation procedures. You will need to customize some or all of the following settings or parameters:
</p>

<p>Data, control, and redo log file settings
</p>
</li>
<li type="disc">
<p>Tablespace and extent sizes
</p>
</li>
<li type="disc">
<p>Database memory parameters
</p>
</li>
<li type="disc">
<p>Archiving modes, formats and destinations

</li>
<li type="disc">
<p>Trace file destinations
</p>
</li>
<li type="disc">
<p>Character set values
</p>
</li>
</ul>

<p>Software Only option: If you select this, the Oracle Universal Installer installs only Oracle9<em>i</em> software. Database Configuration Assistant does not start after installation, and no preconfigured database is installed.
