SCO公司的OpenServer是可靠、稳定、安全的操作系统，在中国得到了广泛应用。但是SCO OpenServer的安装与操作系统的版本、服务器的品牌、型号等都有直接关系，所以在安装时比较复杂。本文以SCO OpenServer 5.0.4（也称Release 5）操作系统在Compaq Proliant 2500服务器上的安装过程为例，谈谈我的安装经验。
<br>
<br> 一、服务器的初始化
<br> 当服务器初次安装或更新操作系统时，都要对其硬件设备进行初始化，并根据欲安装的系统的特点，做相应配置。Compaq Proliant 2500随机配带Compaq SmartStart and Support Software Release 3.50 CD盘，能够提供智能硬件配置和软件集成功能。用户在对硬盘进行初始化配置时，依照界面提示，进行配置即可。但有几点在具体配置时应予注意：

<br> 1.在选择安装方式时应选手动安装方式“Manual Configuration”；
<br>
<br> 2.在选择欲安装的操作系统时应选SCO OpenServer Enterprise System Release 5.0.4；
<br>
<br> 3.应事先制作好扩展特性补充盘EFS(Extended Feature Supplement)。EFS是配置网络、管理设备所必需的，共六张软盘。其中，DISK1、2用于网络等的配置；DISK3为BTLD盘（boot-time loadable drivers），为主接口卡或控制器的驱动程序包，用于驱动系统中的第一块硬盘（也称系统盘或root盘）、盒式带（只有当UNIX介质为磁带时）、CD-ROM（只有当UNIX介质为CD盘时）；DISK5为SCO OpenServer 5.0.4 的引导盘。
<br>
<br> 二、SCO OpenServer 5.0.4安装中的注意事项：
<br> 1.引导成功后，键入boot串：
<br>
<br> defbootstr link="cha"Srom=wd(0,0,0)
<br>
<br> 或restart ahslink="CUCHA" Sdsk=cha(0,0,0,0) Srom=wd(0,0,0)
<br>
<br> 注意：UNIX系统区分字母的大小写，应完全按照上述内容键入；
<br>
<br> 2．当系统出现提示“Please enter the swap-space allocation，or pressto get the default allocation of 15000 1k bloacks：”时，可根据需要确定交换区（swap space）的大小。一般来说，交换区的容量应为系统内存的1.5倍；
<br>
<br> 3．当系统出现提示“Do you want a separate/u filesystem？（y/n）”，可根据需要创建独立的/u分区。 一般来说，引导分区应为600～ 750MB，其余分配给u分区。注意：若创建的u文件系统分区用于安装大型数据库Sybase，则分区大小不能超过 1GB。
