<P>The Atmel ATF15xx ISP Software, <B><I>ATMISP</I></B>, is a Windows based software (Win95, Win98, WinNT4.0, WinME,
and Win2000) and it is the primary means for implementing ISP on Atmel ISP programmable logic devices. It can be
used from your personal computer to implement ISP onto the target ISP hardware system or generate a Serial Vector
Format (.SVF) file to be used by Automatic Testing Equipment (ATE) to program Atmel ISP devices on your target
system. The ATMISP software will first acquire all the necessary information from the user about the JTAG device
chain in the target system. Then it will execute the appropriate JTAG ISP instructions onto the JTAG device chain
in the target system according to the JTAG device chain information specified by the user through the PC's parallel
(LPT) port or an ATE.</P>
<P>With the Atmel ATF15xx ISP Software you can:</P>
<P><FONT COLOR="#660099">· Program, Verify, Erase, Blank-Check, Read, and Secure Atmel ISP PLDs on your
circuit board, the Atmel-ISP Board or the Atmel ATF15xx Development Board.<BR>

<P><FONT COLOR="#660099">· Create all the necessary JTAG files for ISP programming.<BR>
</FONT></P>
<P><FONT COLOR="#660099">· Implement parallel ISP (program multiple Atmel ISP devices at once) on your circuit
board.<BR>
</FONT></P>
<P><FONT COLOR="#660099">· Program Atmel ISP device exclusive of other devices.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT COLOR="#660099">· Create a SVF file to program Atmel CPLD ISP devices on an ATE.</FONT></P>

</FONT>The Atmel ATF15xx ISP Software requires you to create a JTAG chain file which describes the characteristics
of all Atmel and non-Atmel ISP devices configured on your circuit board. You can use the software to add, edit
or delete items in the JTAG chain file. Any Atmel ISP device in the JTAG chain can be programmed with this software.
You can also configure an Atmel device in the JTAG BYPASS mode to prevent certain Atmel ISP devices from being
programmed. Non-Atmel CPLDs MUST be configured in the JTAG BYPASS mode. <BR>

Once you have configured the JTAG chain, the software will prompt you to link JEDEC files to the appropriate Atmel
ISP devices you want to program. The ATMISP software will automatically implement parallel ISP on your circuit
board if more than one Atmel device is linked. <BR>
<BR>
The ATMISP software can execute different ISP operations for Atmel devices in your JTAG chain. Therefore, a mixture
of different JTAG ISP instructions can be executed to the different devices within the same JTAG device chain.
For example, you can program the first device in the chain and erase the second device in the same device chain
within the same chain file.<BR>

If ATMISP is used with an Atmel ATF15xx ISP Board or an Atmel ATF15xx Development Board, then it can perform JTAG
ISP operations on only one device at a time. Attempting to use the software with the Atmel ATF15xx ISP Board or
the Atmel ATF15xx Development Board to program multiple devices will generate an error. A custom circuit board
is required to program multiple devices via ISP.<BR>

The ATMISP software allows you to use either the Atmel-ISP Cable or the ByteBlaster/ByteBlasterMV cable to program
the Atmel ISP devices. Please refer to the "<A HREF="cmd.htm" target="Frame5294211">Menu Commands</A>"
section for more information on how to select the appropriate download cable type.<BR>
