What is MCS-libre?MCS-libre is a free (GNU LGPL) utility for Monte-Carlo simulation. Itis a library of header files that can easily be inserted into a C++program. A C++ compiler is required. This author recommends using the GNU compiler g++.Why did I write this library? (short version)I wanted to be able to do my ME 493 (Mechanical Component Analysis)homework without using Crystal Ball, an Excel plug-in. This isbecause I do not like Excel. Also, a compiled C++ program runsfaster, so more samples can be simulated. Why did I write this? (more interesting version)I've been using discrete-event simulators such as Quest and ProModelto simulate factory systems for some time now. These tools areavailable at school, but I wanted something I could use at home forconsulting and engineering design. Therefore, I decided to developsome free (GNU LGPL) tools for discrete-event simulation. MCS-libreprovides the statistical engine for such an endeavor. How do you use this library?See the file 'Monte-Carlo-Simulation-with-MCS-libre-HOWTO' in the'doc' directory for instructions on use.About the name:This software is 'free' in the "'free speech', not necessarily 'freebeer'" sense of the word. Since the English word for 'free' isambiguous, I've chosen to use the Spanish word 'libre' in the title.I'm not sure 'libre' and 'free' have a one-to-one correlation, but(Damn it Jim!) I'm an engineer and not a linguist. The 'MCS' part ofthe title stands for 'Monte-Carlo simulation'.
