for thefile specified by thesource_fileoperand, at thedestinationpath specified by thetarget_fileoperand.This first synopsis form is assumed when the final operand does not namean existing directory;if more than two operands are specified and the finalis not an existing directory, an error will result.
In the second synopsis form, thelnutility will create a new directory entry for each file specified by asource_fileoperand, at adestinationpath in the existing directory named bytarget_dir.
If the last operand specifies an existing file of a type notspecified by the XSH specification, the behaviour is implementation-dependent.
The correspondingdestination path for eachsource_filewill be the concatenation of thetarget directory pathname, a slash character, and the last pathname componentof thesource_file.The second synopsis form will be assumed whenthe final operand names an existing directory.
For eachsource_file:

If thedestinationpath exists:

If the-foption is not specified, lnwill write a diagnosticmessage to standard error, do nothing more with the currentsource_file,and go on to any remainingsource_files.

Actions will be performed equivalent to the XSH specificationunlink()function, called usingdestinationas thepathargument. If this fails for any reason, lnwill write adiagnostic message to standard error, do nothing more withthe currentsource_file,and go on to any remainingsource_files.

Actions will be performed equivalent to the XSH specification<a
