Exchanging Information with MS Word 

You can import and export information to and from and MS Word for Windows 97.  Macros to provide this facility are contained in an 'UNSUPPORTED' directory on the production CD . These can be used with to transfer information between BPwin and MS Word.  If you attach a new MS Word file to the Nodetree.dot template, MS Word creates one files 'Nodetree.doc'. You can enter node tree and definitions directly into these files, and then spell check, organize your activities hierarchically in your node tree outline, and proofread, print, and distribute the documents for comment. After you have entered the data, you can export the Nodetree.doc  file to tab-delimited text file. This can  then be imported to BPwin via the File Import options.

Installing the templates

Simply copy the *.dot files from the UNSUPPORTED\Office 97 directory to the:
\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates  directory (or wherever the master office template directory is located).

Using the Nodetree.dot Template 

The BPwin Nodetree.dot file is an MS Word template that adds BPwin import/export capabilities to your word processing environment. When you attach Nodetree.dot to a standard MS Word file, MS Word displays a special BPwin toolbar that supports export to file  ready for import to BPwin, validation of a node tree outline, and custom Help information.  The BPwin Nodetree.dot toolbar buttons that are added to MS Word are explained below:




To create a node tree or arrow file in MS Word 

1.	Open MS Word.

2.	Select New from the File menu. MS Word displays the New dialog in which you can select a template for the new document.

3.	Choose Nodetree and click OK. MS Word opens two new, blank documents, prompts you to name them Nodetree.doc and Arrow.doc, and displays the MS Word Outline and BPwin toolbar buttons. If you do not see the BPwin toolbar buttons on screen, select the Toolbars option from the View menu and click on the BPwin menu option.

4.	Type your node tree outline into the Nodetree.doc document, using the MS Word outlining buttons to move and indent activity items within the node tree hierarchy. To add an activity definition, press the ENTER key to move to the line following the activity name, type the definition, and apply the Normal text style. See your MS Word documentation for information on using the outlining features and selecting text styles.


5.	When this is complete, click the Validate toolbar button to check that you have constructed a valid BPwin node tree and make any suggested corrections. Choose one of the following:

a	To temporarily leave MS Word and save your unfinished files, select Save from the MS Word File menu.

b	To export your files, click the Export to BPwin toolbar button and follow the procedure for saving and exporting MS Word node tree to BPwin via an intermediary file.  

       NOTES:

I. You will be prompted to save the template CLICK ON No
II. The filename created must be in a directory and have  filename that conform the Windows 3 standards ie 8+3 format with no spaces. 
III. There is an issue with filename of exactly 7 characters chose any other filename length



To Import MS Word node tree files to BPwin 

1. Open BPwin and slect New Model (either IDEF0 or DFD as required.


2. Select File Import Nodetree and navigate to the file created as above


3. You will be prompted to Save the model to avoid corruption , select this and/or continue


4. The Node Tree will be imported to BPwin
