This will decrease development costs and enable more companies to deploy more technologies sold by both companies."

"Sun believes that any effort promising lower operating costs, faster application development and deployment and, above all, the freedom to choose best-of-breed hardware and software solutions is good for the retail industry. UnifiedPOS has the potential to accomplish this by embracing both the JavaPOS and OPOS standards in a common architecture, thereby giving retailers the power to choose their suppliers as they design their POS solutions."

"Retailers asked for this initiative, and Sun is pleased to be actively involved in helping to deliver it."

</dir>

What are the deliverables and timeline for UnifiedPOS?

Deliverables:

This FAQ
Setting up the WEB page
Generate the UnifiedPOS standard specification
Definition of a submission process and template
Definition of a certification process

<dir>
Timeline:

Working towards having the specification and related processes available in the mid January timeframe.

  </dir>

Version(s) for    UnifiedPOS?

<dir>
The plan is to grandfather in the OPOS and JavaPOS specifications at the 1.4 level.
