<strong>Definition:</strong>
A division of a <a href="set.html" tppabs="http://hissa.nist.gov/dads/HTML/set.html"><em>set</em></a> into nonempty <a href="disjointset.html" tppabs="http://hissa.nist.gov/dads/HTML/disjointset.html"><em>disjoint sets</em></a> which completely cover the set.
<P><em>Note:
More formally, a partition P of a set S is a set of sets with the following properties: <OL> <LI>  for all s<sub>i</sub>  in P, s<sub>i</sub>  <img src="neq.gif" tppabs="http://hissa.nist.gov/dads/HTML/Images/neq.gif" border=0 height=10 width=10 alt="not equal to">  {} <br>(no subset is empty), <LI>  for all s<sub>i</sub>, s<sub>j</sub>  in P, s<sub>i</sub>  intersect s<sub>j</sub> =  {}  <br> (subsets are disjoint), and <LI>  <strong>U</strong><sub>i=1</sub> s<sub>i</sub> = S <br>(subsets cover the original). </OL> <P> Thanks to Julio A.
