The use of an external data structure to store <a href="collision.html" tppabs="http://hissa.nist.gov/dads/HTML/collision.html"><em>collisions</em></a> of a <a href="hashtab.html" tppabs="http://hissa.nist.gov/dads/HTML/hashtab.html"><em>hash table</em></a>. A <a href="linklist.html" tppabs="http://hissa.nist.gov/dads/HTML/linklist.html"><em>linked list</em></a> is often used.
