INTRODUCTION
jDiskReport enables you to understand how much space
the directories and files consume on your hard disks.
It helps you to find large, old, and obsolete files and folders.
Therefore it analyses your hard disks and collects statistics
which you can view as overview charts and details tables.
This is ad- and nag-free uncrippled no-charge binary software that
never expires. You can use, copy, and redistribute it indefinitely.
However, it is protected by German and international copyright laws.
Refer to the copyright and license agreement for legal terms of use.
PREREQUISITES
- a Java2 Runtime Environment version 1.3 or later.
Sun Java 1.3.1 is recommended for Windows and Solaris,
see http://java.sun.com/j2se/.
Blackdown Java 1.3 is strongly recommended for Linux,
see http://www.blackdown.org/.
- jDiskReport needs about 580 KB of disk space.
The required Java2 Runtime Environment takes up to 23 MB.
- At least 32 MB of physical RAM is recommended to run jDiskReport.
Running with less memory may cause disk swapping
which has a severe effect on performance.
INSTALLING AND RUNNING THE WINDOWS EDITION
The Windows editions come in two flavours:
1) jdr-1_0-win.exe - requires a JRE 1.3 or later
2) jdr-1_0-win-jre.exe - includes a Sun JRE 1.3.1
Before running the setup of the Windows editon without JRE, be sure
to have a Java2 Runtime Environment 1.3 or later installed.
To install a Windows edition, run the exe-file and follow
the setup instructions.
You can invoke jDiskReport from the 'Start > Programs' menu or
from the Explorer's popup menu for a selected folder.
INSTALLING AND RUNNING THE JAVA-ENABLED EDITION
The Java-enabled edition of jDiskReport is a ZIP archive that contains:
1) jdiskreport.jar - a signed executable JAR-file
2) readme.txt - this readme file
3) copyright.txt - copyright notes
4) jDiskReport.ico - a Windows icon file
Extract the files from the ZIP archive. Do not extract files from
the JAR. Then run jDiskReport and follow the setup instructions.
To run jDiskReport from a command-line, change directory to
where the JAR-file is located. Then execute:
java -jar jdiskreport.jar
On most platforms you can launch jDiskReport by using a
platform-specific mechanism to launch the executable JAR file.
For example, on MS Windows you can double-click the JAR.
USING THE JAVA WEB START ENABLED EDITION
You can launch jDiskReport with a single click from your Web browser.
This requires Java Web Start technology version 1.0 or later.
See http://java.sun.com/cgi-bin/javawebstart-platform.sh?
Open www.jGoodies.com and navigate to ->jDiskReport->Download.
Then click on the "start" link of the Web Start enabled edition.
USING THE JBUILDER INTEGRATION
jDiskReport provides an integration with Borland's JBuilder 4 and 5.
To prepare this feature, copy the file jdiskreport.jar to the
JBuilder's open tools folder, which is typically located in:
<JBuilder-Installation-Dir>\lib\ext
You can then launch jPathReport from the JBuilder's "Tools" menu.
DOCUMENTATION
The integrated documentation contains release notes, a user's guide,
a user's reference, FAQs, copyright notes, and the license agreement.
