ViewCVS是一个使用Python书写的查看CVS代码库中的 所有数据 的软件。它已经被很多的配置管理系统所使用， 也是现在开放源代码产品中与cvsweb一样可以选择的CVS辅助工具。<br>
安装前的准备<br>
<br>
在你的系统中应该已经有以下软件已经安装：<br>
<br>
1. python 1.5以上的版本，这个没有安装也可以，因为ports在编译时是会确定它是否安装，如果没有安装会自动编译并安装的。<br>
2. cvs，在FreeBSD中已经内置了cvs，所以不必担心。<br>
3. mysql 3.22以上的版本，如果你需要viewcvs将数据存入mysql，哪么你应该提前安装该软件。注意，这个软件不是viewcvs运行所必须的。<br>
<br>
在FreeBSD下安装ViewCVS<br>
<br>
在FreeBSD下安装ViewCVS非常简单，通过ports来安装就可以了：<br>
<br>
root@~$cd /usr/ports/devel/viewcvs/<br>
root@/usr/ports/devel/viewcvs$make install;make clean<br>
<br>
<br>
这样ViewCVS就安装到了/usr/local中的viewcvs-version目录中（当前版本为0.9.2）。<br>
配置基本的ViewCVS<br>
<br>
将viewcvs中的viewcvs.conf.dist复制一个复本名为viewcvs.conf。这个文件是viewcvs所使用的主要的配置文件。在这个文件中最少要设置以下参数：<br>
# cvs_roots<br>
# default_root<br>
# rcs_path<br>
# mime_types_file<br>
cvs_roots设置<br>
<br>
在viewcvs.conf中的cvs_roots的原始设置为：<br>
<br>
cvs_roots =<br>
Development : /home/cvsroot<br>
<br>

我们需要将所有让viewcvs要显示的cvsroot一一加入列表中，格式为[CVSROOT名称 ] :[CVSROOT路径 ] ，以下为我的一个设置例子：<br>

cvs_roots =<br>
maven : /home/cvsd/cvs/maven,<br>
hdsite : /home/cvsd/cvs/hdsite,<br>
bsdhowto : /home/cvsd/cvs/bsdhowto<br>

这里我设置了三个CVSRoot让viewcvs能看到，它们的名字为maven、hdsite、bsdhowto。需要注意的是每个CVSRoot之间的设置使用逗号分开<br>
default_root<br>
<br>
default_root是用来设置在ViewCVS首页缺省显示的cvsroot项目。<br>
rcs_path<br>
<br>
在viewcvs.conf中的rcs_path的原始设置是没有的：<br>

#rcs_path = /usr/bin/<br>
<br>
<br>
我们可以看到它已经被注释了，如果你的rcs命令不在/usr/bin目录下，哪么将注释去除，改为rcs所在路径。在FreeBSD下默认rcs就在/usr/bin下，所以这个设置可以不动。<br>
mime_types_file<br>
<br>
在viewcvs.conf中的mime_types_file设置也是没有的：<br>
<br>
#mime_types_file = /usr/local/apache/conf/mime.types<br>
<br>
<br>
我们可以将它指向apache的mime设置，也可以自己来书写一个新的设置，我感觉它不是为web服务器所使用，应该是在独立运行时使用的配置项。<br>
ViewCVS的其它配置<br>
<br>
除基本设置外，还有一些其它的设置也很有用，在这里我们将一些有用的设置一一说明。<br>
[general]中的其它设置<br>
<br>
address用来设置在页面中显示管理联系人的邮件<br>
<br>
address = HD<br>
<br>
<br>
[vhosts]虚拟主机支持<br>
<br>
如果你会有多个虚似主机来使用同一个cgi，就会发现每个主机可能需要不同的viewcvs.conf的设置，哪么在viewcvs.conf中提供了vhost的设置可能。这是viewcvs.conf的原始说明：<br>

# vhost2 = glob3, glob4<br>

大致一看基本上就可以看明白了，使用一个名字给一个虚似主机，并说明这个虚似主机对应的url。每一个虚似主机都可以设置所有的节属性，节的名称加上虚似主机的名称就可以了。这是我设置的一个实例：<br>

bsd = bsd.huangdong.com<br>

我设置了两个虚似主机：mavencn和bsd，分别对应maven.huangdong.com和bsd.huangdong.com两个URL。在下面分别为两个虚似主机设置了general节中的default_root属性。<br>
安装的注意事项<br>

首先一定要注意CVS中文件和目录的权限设置，一定需要给web server运行的帐号以读的权限。在我使用FreeBSD中ports里的cvsd服务时，我将它的umask设置为022。
