This download features API documentation in HTML format, referenceimplementations for the Solaris and Win32 platforms, and sample software.<P>This version of the Java communications API contains support for RS232serial ports and IEEE 1284 parallel ports. With updated functionality,one can:<OL><LI>Enumerate ports available on the system.</LI><LI>Open and claim ownership of ports.</LI><LI>Resolve port ownership contention between</LI><LI>multiple applications.</LI><LI>Perform asynchronous and synchronous I/O on ports.</LI><LI>Receive Beans-style events describing communication port state changes.</LI></OL>Please note that the software included in this download has only beentested on JDK/JRE 1.1.5 and 1.1.6 systems. Limited testing has been done on a pre-release version of JDK 1.2, see link below. Sun defines Option 1 compliance as:<p><b>Option 1: all dates unambiguous</b><p>The Java communications API has no date related functionality and does notrely on the underlying operating system or JDK for date related functionality.<p>The JDK and the operating system on which the Java communications API run are being assessed separately for year 2000 compliance.
