GTM is HERE 4 U.
(Thu Dec 30 17:05:48 1999)

---------------------------------------------
GNOME Transfer Manager
Author: Kevin Breit

Since switching from Windows to Linux last June, I had been
looking for a feature laden download manager which functions natively
under X Windows, has a queue for downloading files sequentially,
supports resuming on dropped connections, and is roughly equivalent to
GetRight in Windows. My friend then informed me about GTM (GNOME
Transfer Manager) 0.4.4. He assured me that I would like it, so I
decided to give it a try. GTM, without a doubt, fills the slot of the
download manager I was looking for.

I wanted to test out the usability of this program, so I decided
to examine just how well GTM handled the Mozilla M12 binaries. I
located the URL to download the files and was easily able to setup the
download. Every one of the download statistics was correct.

GTM has a small applet which will conveniently fit into the GNOME
Panel. When left clicked, GTM will prompt the user for a URL to
download. After the user feeds GTM the information, it will then open
the program and lets the user start the download, or leave it in queue
for later download. It would be nice if the applet showed the
progress of a download or the average of all the downloads which are
running.

GTM includes a feature which lets the user customize the
interface. However, I would like to see it be more functional than it
is now. I have yet to experience any crashes in GTM. GTM also could
use a way to download all the files in a directory or an entire path,
and allow the download to keep the file structure at the same time.

GTM is definitely a winning program, especially for a user on a
dial-up connection. If you're an ex-Windows user looking for a
download manager similar to GetRight, give GTM a try. Even if you are
a console junkie and have fallen in love with wget, wait a few
releases, and then give this a try. You may just like it.

------------------------- End ------------------------
--
|======================+========================+====================|
GNU/Linux, |
Linuxrat |
|======================+========================+====================|
